لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِهَٰذَا اَ۬لْبَلَدِ ﰀ

Lâ uqsimu bihâdhâ lbalad

Non!... Je jure par cette Cité

I swear by this city, Makkah

وَأَنتَ حِلُّۢ بِهَٰذَا اَ۬لْبَلَدِ ﰁ

Wa'anta hillum bihâdhâ lbalad

et toi, tu es un résident dans cette cité

And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city

وَوَالِدٖ وَمَا وَلَدَ ﰂ

Wawâlidin wamâ walad

Et par le père et ce qu'il engendre

And [by] the father and that which was born [of him]

لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا اَ۬لِانسَٰنَ فِے كَبَدٍۖ ﰃ

Laqad khalaqnâ linsâna fî kabad

Nous avons, certes, créé l'homme pour une vie de lutte

We have certainly created man into hardship

اَيَحْسِبُ أَن لَّنْ يَّقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٞ ﰄ

Ayahsibu al lay yaqdira ‘alayhi ahad

Pense-t-il que personne ne pourra rien contre lui

Does he think that never will anyone overcome him

يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالاٗ لُّبَداًۖ ﰅ

Yaqûlu ahlaktu mâlal lubadâ

Il dit: «J'ai gaspillé beaucoup de biens»

He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance

اَيَحْسِبُ أَن لَّمْ يَرَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌۖ ﰆ

Ayahsibu al lam yarahû ahad

Pense-t-il que nul ne l'a vu

Does he think that no one has seen him

اَلَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُۥ عَيْنَيْنِ ﰇ

Alam naj‘al lahû ‘aynayn

Ne lui avons Nous pas assigné deux yeux

Have We not made for him two eyes

وَلِسَاناٗ وَشَفَتَيْنِ ﰈ

Walisânan washafatayn

et une langue et deux lèvres

And a tongue and two lips

وَهَدَيْنَٰهُ اُ۬لنَّجْدَيْنِۖ ﰉ

Wahadaynâhu nnajdayn

Ne l'avons-Nous pas guidé aux deux voies

And have shown him the two ways

فَلَا اَ۪قْتَحَمَ اَ۬لْعَقَبَةَۖ ﰊ

Falâ qtahama l‘aqabah

Or, il ne s'engage pas dans la voie difficile

But he has not broken through the difficult pass

وَمَآ أَدْر۪يٰكَ مَا اَ۬لْعَقَبَةُۖ ﰋ

Wamâ adrêka mâ l‘aqabah

Et qui te dira ce qu'est la voie difficile

And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass

فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ ﰌ

Fakku raqabah

C'est délier un joug [affranchir un esclave]

It is the freeing of a slave

اَوِ اِطْعَامٞ فِے يَوْمٖ ذِے مَسْغَبَةٖ ﰍ

Awi t‘âmun fî yawmin dhî masghabah

ou nourrir, en un jour de famine

Or feeding on a day of severe hunger

يَتِيماٗ ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ ﰎ

Yatîman dhâ maqrabah

un orphelin proche parent

An orphan of near relationship

اَوْ مِسْكِيناٗ ذَا مَتْرَبَةٖۖ ﰏ

Aw miskînan dhâ matrabah

ou un pauvre dans le dénuement

Or a needy person in misery

ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ اَ۬لذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَتَوَاصَوْاْ بِالصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْاْ بِالْمَرْحَمَةِۖ ﰐ

Thumma kâna mina lladhîna âmanû watawâsaw bissabri watawâsaw bilmarhamah

Et c'est être, en outre, de ceux qui croient et s'enjoignent mutuellement l'endurance, et s'enjoignent mutuellement la miséricorde

And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion

أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَٰبُ اُ۬لْمَيْمَنَةِۖ ﰑ

Ulâ'ika ashâbu lmaymanah

Ceux-là sont les gens de la droite

Those are the companions of the right

وَالذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا هُمُۥٓ أَصْحَٰبُ اُ۬لْمَشْـَٔمَةِۖ ﰒ

Walladhîna kafarû bi'âyâtinâ humû ashâbu lmash'amah

alors que ceux qui ne croient pas en Nos versets sont les gens de la gauche

But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left

عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٞ مُّوصَدَةٞۖ ﰓ

‘alayhim nârum mûsadah

Le Feu se refermera sur eux

Over them will be fire closed in
