أَلَٓمِّٓۖ غُلِبَتِ اِ۬لرُّومُ فِےٓ أَدْنَى اَ۬لَارْضِ وَهُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ غَلَبِهِمْ سَيَغْلِبُونَ ﰀ

Alif lâm mîm ghulibati rrûmu fî adnâ lardi wahum mim ba‘di ghalabihim sayaghlibûn

Alif, Lâm, Mîm Les Romains ont été vaincus dans le pays voisin, et après leur défaite ils seront les vainqueurs

Alif, Lam, Meem The Byzantines have been defeated In the nearest land. But they, after their defeat, will overcome

فِے بِضْعِ سِنِينَۖ ﰁ

Fî bid‘i sinîn

dans quelques années. A Allah appartient le commandement, au début et à la fin, et ce jour-là les Croyants se réjouiront

Within three to nine years. To Allah belongs the command before and after. And that day the believers will rejoice

لِلهِ اِ۬لَامْرُ مِن قَبْلُ وَمِنۢ بَعْدُۖ وَيَوْمَئِذٖ يَفْرَحُ اُ۬لْمُومِنُونَ ﰂ

Lillâhi lamru min qablu wamim ba‘du wayawma'idhin yafrahu lmûminûn

بِنَصْرِ اِ۬للَّهِۖ يَنصُرُ مَنْ يَّشَآءُۖ وَهُوَ اَ۬لْعَزِيزُ اُ۬لرَّحِيمُۖ ﰃ

Binasri llâhi yansuru may yashâ'u wahuwa l‘azîzu rrahîm

du secours d'Allah. Il secourt qui Il veut et Il est le Tout Puissant, le Tout Miséricordieux

In the victory of Allah. He gives victory to whom He wills, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful

وَعْدَ اَ۬للَّهِ لَا يُخْلِفُ اُ۬للَّهُ وَعْدَهُۥۖ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ اَ۬لنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَۖ ﰄ

Wa‘da llâhi lâ yukhlifu llâhu wa‘dahû walâkinna akthara nnâsi lâ ya‘lamûn

C'est [là] la promesse d'Allah. Allah ne manque jamais à Sa promesse mais la plupart des gens ne savent pas

[It is] the promise of Allah. Allah does not fail in His promise, but most of the people do not know

يَعْلَمُونَ ظَٰهِراٗ مِّنَ اَ۬لْحَيَوٰةِ اِ۬لدُّنْي۪ا وَهُمْ عَنِ اِ۬لَاخِرَةِ هُمْ غَٰفِلُونَۖ ﰅ

Ya‘lamûna zâhiram mina lhayawâti ddunyê wahum ‘ani lakhirati hum ghâfilûn

Ils connaissent un aspect de la vie présente, tandis qu'ils sont inattentifs à l'au-delà

They know what is apparent of the worldly life, but they, of the Hereafter, are unaware

أَوَلَمْ يَتَفَكَّرُواْ فِےٓ أَنفُسِهِمۖ مَّا خَلَقَ اَ۬للَّهُ اُ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالَارْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَأَجَلٖ مُّسَمّىٗۖ وَإِنَّ كَثِيراٗ مِّنَ اَ۬لنَّاسِ بِلِقَآءِ رَبِّهِمْ لَكَٰفِرُونَۖ ﰆ

Awalam yatafakkarû fî anfusihim mâ khalaqa llâhu ssamâwâti walarda wamâ baynahumâ illâ bilhaqqi wa'ajalim musamman wa'inna kathîram mina nnâsi biliqâ'i rabbihim lakâfirûn

N'ont-ils pas médité en eux-mêmes? Allah n'a créé les cieux et la terre et ce qui est entre eux, qu'à juste raison et pour un terme fixé. Beaucoup de gens cependant ne croient pas en la rencontre de leur Seigneur

Do they not contemplate within themselves? Allah has not created the heavens and the earth and what is between them except in truth and for a specified term. And indeed, many of the people, in [the matter of] the meeting with their Lord, are disbelievers

۞ أَوَلَمْ يَسِيرُواْ فِے اِ۬لَارْضِ فَيَنظُرُواْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ اُ۬لذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ كَانُوٓاْ أَشَدَّ مِنْهُمْ قُوَّةٗ وَأَثَارُواْ اُ۬لَارْضَۖ وَعَمَرُوهَآ أَكْثَرَ مِمَّا عَمَرُوهَا وَجَآءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُم بِالْبَيِّنَٰتِۖ فَمَا كَانَ اَ۬للَّهُ لِيَظْلِمَهُمْۖ وَلَٰكِن كَانُوٓاْ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَۖ ﰇ

Awalam yasîrû fî lardi fayanzurû kayfa kâna ‘âqibatu lladhîna min qablihim kânû ashadda minhum quwwatan wa'athârû larda wa‘amarûhâ akthara mimmâ ‘amarûhâ wajâ'athum rusuluhum bilbayyinâti famâ kâna llâhu liyazlimahum walâkin kânû anfusahum yazlimûn

N'ont-ils pas parcouru la terre pour voir ce qu'il est advenu de ceux qui ont vécu avant eux? Ceux-là les surpassaient en puissance et avaient labouré et peuplé la terre bien plus qu'ils ne l'ont fait eux-mêmes. Leurs messagers leur vinrent avec des preuves évidentes. Ce n'est pas Allah qui leur fit du tort; mais ils se firent du tort à eux-mêmes

Have they not traveled through the earth and observed how was the end of those before them? They were greater than them in power, and they plowed the earth and built it up more than they have built it up, and their messengers came to them with clear evidences. And Allah would not ever have wronged them, but they were wronging themselves

ثُمَّ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ اُ۬لذِينَ أَسَٰٓـُٔواْ اُ۬لسُّوٓأ۪ىٰٓ أَن كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِ اِ۬للَّهِ وَكَانُواْ بِهَا يَسْتَهْزِءُونَۖ ﰈ

Thumma kâna ‘âqibatu lladhîna asâ'û ssû'ê an kadhdhabû bi'âyâti llâhi wakânû bihâ yastahzi'ûn

Puis, mauvaise fut la fin de ceux qui faisaient le mal, ayant traité de mensonges les versets d'Allah et les ayant raillés

Then the end of those who did evil was the worst [consequence] because they denied the signs of Allah and used to ridicule them

اَ۬للَّهُ يَبْدَؤُاْ اُ۬لْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُۥ ثُمَّ إِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَۖ ﰉ

Allâhu yabda'u lkhalqa thumma yu‘îduhû thumma ilayhi turja‘ûn

C'est Allah qui commence la création; ensuite Il la refait; puis, vers Lui vous serez ramenés

Allah begins creation; then He will repeat it; then to Him you will be returned

وَيَوْمَ تَقُومُ اُ۬لسَّاعَةُ يُبْلِسُ اُ۬لْمُجْرِمُونَ ﰊ

Wayawma taqûmu ssâ‘atu yublisu lmujrimûn

Et le jour où l'Heure arrivera, les criminels seront frappés de désespoir

And the Day the Hour appears the criminals will be in despair

وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُم مِّن شُرَكَآئِهِمْ شُفَعَٰٓؤُاْ وَكَانُواْ بِشُرَكَآئِهِمْ كٰ۪فِرِينَۖ ﰋ

Walam yakul lahum min shurakâ'ihim shufa‘â'u wakânû bishurakâ'ihim kêfirîn

Et ils n'auront point d'intercesseurs parmi ceux qu'ils associaient [à Allah] et ils renieront même leurs divinités

And there will not be for them among their [alleged] partners any intercessors, and they will [then] be disbelievers in their partners

وَيَوْمَ تَقُومُ اُ۬لسَّاعَةُ يَوْمَئِذٖ يَتَفَرَّقُونَۖ ﰌ

Wayawma taqûmu ssâ‘atu yawma'idhin yatafarraqûn

Le jour où l'Heure arrivera, ce jour-là ils se sépareront [les uns des autres]

And the Day the Hour appears - that Day they will become separated

فَأَمَّا اَ۬لذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ اُ۬لصَّٰلِحَٰتِ فَهُمْ فِے رَوْضَةٖ يُحْبَرُونَۖ ﰍ

Fa'ammâ lladhîna âmanû wa‘amilû ssâlihâti fahum fî rawdatin yuhbarûn

Ceux qui auront cru et accompli de bonnes œuvres se réjouiront dans un jardin

And as for those who had believed and done righteous deeds, they will be in a garden [of Paradise], delighted

وَأَمَّا اَ۬لذِينَ كَفَرُواْ وَكَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا وَلِقَآءِ اِ۬لَاخِرَةِ فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ فِے اِ۬لْعَذَابِ مُحْضَرُونَۖ ﰎ

Wa'ammâ lladhîna kafarû wakadhdhabû bi'âyâtinâ waliqâ'i lakhirati fa'ulâ'ika fî l‘adhâbi muhdarûn

et quant à ceux qui n'auront pas cru et auront traité de mensonges Nos signes ainsi que la rencontre de l'au-delà, ceux-là seront emmenés au châtiment

But as for those who disbelieved and denied Our verses and the meeting of the Hereafter, those will be brought into the punishment [to remain]

فَسُبْحَٰنَ اَ۬للَّهِ حِينَ تُمْسُونَ وَحِينَ تُصْبِحُونَ ﰏ

Fasubhâna llâhi hîna tumsûna wahîna tusbihûn

Glorifiez Allah donc, soir et matin

So exalted is Allah when you reach the evening and when you reach the morning

وَلَهُ اُ۬لْحَمْدُ فِے اِ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالَارْضِ وَعَشِيّاٗ وَحِينَ تُظْهِرُونَۖ ﰐ

Walahu lhamdu fî ssamâwâti walardi wa‘ashiyyan wahîna tuzhirûn

A Lui toute louange dans les cieux et la terre, dans l'après-midi et au milieu de la journée

And to Him is [due all] praise throughout the heavens and the earth. And [exalted is He] at night and when you are at noon

يُخْرِجُ اُ۬لْحَيَّ مِنَ اَ۬لْمَيِّتِ وَيُخْرِجُ اُ۬لْمَيِّتَ مِنَ اَ۬لْحَيِّ وَيُحْيِ اِ۬لَارْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَاۖ وَكَذَٰلِكَ تُخْرَجُونَۖ ﰑ

Yukhriju lhayya mina lmayyiti wayukhriju lmayyita mina lhayyi wayuhyi larda ba‘da mawtihâ wakadhâlika tukhrajûn

Du mort, Il fait sortir le vivant, et du vivant, Il fait sortir le mort. Et Il redonne la vie à la terre après sa mort. Et c'est ainsi que l'on vous fera sortir (à la résurrection)

He brings the living out of the dead and brings the dead out of the living and brings to life the earth after its lifelessness. And thus will you be brought out

وَمِنَ اٰيَٰتِهِۦٓ أَنْ خَلَقَكُم مِّن تُرَابٖ ثُمَّ إِذَآ أَنتُم بَشَرٞ تَنتَشِرُونَۖ ﰒ

Wamina âyâtihî an khalaqakum min turâbin thumma idhâ antum basharun tantashirûn

Parmi Ses signes: Il vous a créés de terre, - puis, vous voilà des hommes qui se dispersent [dans le monde]

And of His signs is that He created you from dust; then, suddenly you were human beings dispersing [throughout the earth]

وَمِنَ اٰيَٰتِهِۦٓ أَنْ خَلَقَ لَكُم مِّنَ اَنفُسِكُمُۥٓ أَزْوَٰجاٗ لِّتَسْكُنُوٓاْ إِلَيْهَا وَجَعَلَ بَيْنَكُم مَّوَدَّةٗ وَرَحْمَةًۖ اِنَّ فِے ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَٰتٖ لِّقَوْمٖ يَتَفَكَّرُونَۖ ﰓ

Wamina âyâtihî an khalaqa lakum mina nfusikumû azwâjal litaskunû ilayhâ waja‘ala baynakum mawaddatan warahmatani nna fî dhâlika la'yâtil liqawmin yatafakkarûn

Et parmi Ses signes Il a créé de vous, pour vous, des épouses pour que vous viviez en tranquillité avec elles et Il a mis entre vous de l'affection et de la bonté. Il y a en cela des preuves pour des gens qui réfléchissent

And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquillity in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought

۞ وَمِنَ اٰيَٰتِهِۦ خَلْقُ اُ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالَارْضِ وَاخْتِلَٰفُ أَلْسِنَتِكُمْ وَأَلْوَٰنِكُمُۥٓۖ إِنَّ فِے ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَٰتٖ لِّلْعَٰلَمِينَۖ ﰔ

Wamina âyâtihî khalqu ssamâwâti walardi wakhtilâfu alsinatikum wa'alwânikumû inna fî dhâlika la'yâtil lil‘âlamîn

Et parmi Ses signes la création des cieux et de la terre et la variété de vos idiomes et de vos couleurs. Il y a en cela des preuves pour les savants

And of His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and the diversity of your languages and your colors. Indeed in that are signs for those of knowledge

وَمِنَ اٰيَٰتِهِۦ مَنَامُكُم بِاليْلِ وَالنَّه۪ارِ وَابْتِغَآؤُكُم مِّن فَضْلِهِۦٓۖ إِنَّ فِے ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَٰتٖ لِّقَوْمٖ يَسْمَعُونَۖ ﰕ

Wamina âyâtihî manâmukum billayli wannahêri wabtighâ'ukum min fadlihî inna fî dhâlika la'yâtil liqawmin yasma‘ûn

Et parmi Ses signes votre sommeil la nuit et le jour, et aussi votre quête de Sa grâce. Il y a en cela des preuves pour des gens qui entendent

And of His signs is your sleep by night and day and your seeking of His bounty. Indeed in that are signs for a people who listen

وَمِنَ اٰيَٰتِهِۦ يُرِيكُمُ اُ۬لْبَرْقَ خَوْفاٗ وَطَمَعاٗ وَيُنَزِّلُ مِنَ اَ۬لسَّمَآءِ مَآءٗ فَيُحْيِۦ بِهِ اِ۬لَارْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَآۖ إِنَّ فِے ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَٰتٖ لِّقَوْمٖ يَعْقِلُونَۖ ﰖ

Wamina âyâtihî yurîkumu lbarqa khawfan watama‘an wayunazzilu mina ssamâ'i mâ'an fayuhyî bihi larda ba‘da mawtihâ inna fî dhâlika la'yâtil liqawmin ya‘qilûn

Et parmi Ses signes Il vous montre l'éclair avec crainte (de la foudre) et espoir (de la pluie), et fait descendre du ciel une eau avec laquelle Il redonne la vie à la terre après sa mort. Il y a en cela des preuves pour des gens qui raisonnent

And of His signs is [that] He shows you the lightning [causing] fear and aspiration, and He sends down rain from the sky by which He brings to life the earth after its lifelessness. Indeed in that are signs for a people who use reason

وَمِنَ اٰيَٰتِهِۦٓ أَن تَقُومَ اَ۬لسَّمَآءُ وَالَارْضُ بِأَمْرِهِۦۖ ثُمَّ إِذَا دَعَاكُمْ دَعْوَةٗ مِّنَ اَ۬لَارْضِ إِذَآ أَنتُمْ تَخْرُجُونَۖ ﰗ

Wamina âyâtihî an taqûma ssamâ'u walardu bi'amrihî thumma idhâ da‘âkum da‘watam mina lardi idhâ antum takhrujûn

Et parmi Ses signes le ciel et la terre sont maintenus par Son ordre; ensuite lorsqu'Il vous appellera d'un appel, voilà que de la terre vous surgirez

And of His signs is that the heaven and earth remain by His command. Then when He calls you with a [single] call from the earth, immediately you will come forth

وَلَهُۥ مَن فِے اِ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالَارْضِۖ كُلّٞ لَّهُۥ قَٰنِتُونَۖ ﰘ

Walahû man fî ssamâwâti walardi kullul lahû qânitûn

A Lui tous ceux qui sont dans les cieux et la terre: tous Lui sont entièrement soumis

And to Him belongs whoever is in the heavens and earth. All are to Him devoutly obedient

وَهُوَ اَ۬لذِے يَبْدَؤُاْ اُ۬لْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُۥ وَهُوَ أَهْوَنُ عَلَيْهِۖ وَلَهُ اُ۬لْمَثَلُ اُ۬لَاعْل۪ىٰ فِے اِ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالَارْضِۖ وَهُوَ اَ۬لْعَزِيزُ اُ۬لْحَكِيمُۖ ﰙ

Wahuwa lladhî yabda'u lkhalqa thumma yu‘îduhû wahuwa ahwanu ‘alayhi walahu lmathalu la‘lê fî ssamâwâti walardi wahuwa l‘azîzu lhakîm

Et c'est Lui qui commence la création puis la refait; et cela Lui est plus facile. Il a la transcendance absolue dans les cieux et sur la terre. C'est Lui le Tout Puissant, le Sage

And it is He who begins creation; then He repeats it, and that is [even] easier for Him. To Him belongs the highest attribute in the heavens and earth. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise

ضَرَبَ لَكُم مَّثَلاٗ مِّنَ اَنفُسِكُمْ هَل لَّكُم مِّن مَّا مَلَكَتَ اَيْمَٰنُكُم مِّن شُرَكَآءَ فِے مَا رَزَقْنَٰكُمْ فَأَنتُمْ فِيهِ سَوَآءٞ تَخَافُونَهُمْ كَخِيفَتِكُمُۥٓ أَنفُسَكُمْۖ كَذَٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ اُ۬لَايَٰتِ لِقَوْمٖ يَعْقِلُونَۖ ﰚ

Daraba lakum mathalam mina nfusikum hal lakum mim mâ malakata ymânukum min shurakâ'a fî mâ razaqnâkum fa'antum fîhi sawâ'un takhâfûnahum kakhîfatikumû anfusakum kadhâlika nufassilu layâti liqawmin ya‘qilûn

Il vous a cité une parabole de vous-mêmes: Avez-vous associé vos esclaves à ce que Nous vous avons attribué en sorte que vous soyez tous égaux [en droit de propriété] et que vous les craignez [autant] que vous vous craignez mutuellement? C'est ainsi que Nous exposons Nos versets pour des gens qui raisonnent

He presents to you an example from yourselves. Do you have among those whom your right hands possess any partners in what We have provided for you so that you are equal therein [and] would fear them as your fear of one another [within a partnership]? Thus do We detail the verses for a people who use reason

بَلِ اِ۪تَّبَعَ اَ۬لذِينَ ظَلَمُوٓاْ أَهْوَآءَهُم بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٖۖ فَمَنْ يَّهْدِے مَنَ اَضَلَّ اَ۬للَّهُۖ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن نَّٰصِرِينَۖ ﰛ

Bali ttaba‘a lladhîna zalamû ahwâ'ahum bighayri ‘ilmin famay yahdî mana dalla llâhu wamâ lahum min nasirîn

Ceux qui ont été injustes ont plutôt suivi leurs propres passions, sans savoir. Qui donc peut guider celui qu'Allah égare? Et ils n'ont pas pour eux, de protecteur

But those who wrong follow their [own] desires without knowledge. Then who can guide one whom Allah has sent astray? And for them there are no helpers

۞ فَأَقِمْ وَجْهَكَ لِلدِّينِ حَنِيفاٗ فِطْرَتَ اَ۬للَّهِ اِ۬لتِے فَطَرَ اَ۬لنَّاسَ عَلَيْهَا لَا تَبْدِيلَ لِخَلْقِ اِ۬للَّهِ ذَٰلِكَ اَ۬لدِّينُ اُ۬لْقَيِّمُ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ اَ۬لنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ ﰜ

Fa'aqim wajhaka liddîni hanîfan fitrata llâhi llatî fatara nnâsa ‘alayhâ lâ tabdîla likhalqi llâhi dhâlika ddînu lqayyimu walâkinna akthara nnâsi lâ ya‘lamûn

Dirige tout ton être vers la religion exclusivement [pour Allah], telle est la nature qu'Allah a originellement donnée aux hommes - pas de changement à la création d'Allah -. Voilà la religion de droiture; mais la plupart des gens ne savent pas

So direct your face toward the religion, inclining to truth. [Adhere to] the fitrah of Allah upon which He has created [all] people. No change should there be in the creation of Allah. That is the correct religion, but most of the people do not know

مُنِيبِينَ إِلَيْهِ وَاتَّقُوهُ وَأَقِيمُواْ اُ۬لصَّلَوٰةَ وَلَا تَكُونُواْ مِنَ اَ۬لْمُشْرِكِينَ ﰝ

Munîbîna ilayhi wattaqûhu wa'aqîmû ssalawâta walâ takûnû mina lmushrikîn

Revenez repentants vers Lui; craignez-Le, accomplissez la Salât et ne soyez pas parmi les associateurs

[Adhere to it], turning in repentance to Him, and fear Him and establish prayer and do not be of those who associate others with Allah

مِنَ اَ۬لذِينَ فَرَّقُواْ دِينَهُمْ وَكَانُواْ شِيَعاٗۖ كُلُّ حِزْبِۢ بِمَا لَدَيْهِمْ فَرِحُونَۖ ﰞ

Mina lladhîna farraqû dînahum wakânû shiya‘an kullu hizbim bimâ ladayhim farihûn

parmi ceux qui ont divisé leur religion et sont devenus des sectes, chaque parti exultant de ce qu'il détenait

[Or] of those who have divided their religion and become sects, every faction rejoicing in what it has

وَإِذَا مَسَّ اَ۬لنَّاسَ ضُرّٞ دَعَوْاْ رَبَّهُم مُّنِيبِينَ إِلَيْهِۖ ثُمَّ إِذَآ أَذَاقَهُم مِّنْهُ رَحْمَةً اِذَا فَرِيقٞ مِّنْهُم بِرَبِّهِمْ يُشْرِكُونَۖ ﰟ

Wa'idhâ massa nnâsa durrun da‘aw rabbahum munîbîna ilayhi thumma idhâ adhâqahum minhu rahmatani dhâ farîqum minhum birabbihim yushrikûn

Et quand un mal touche les gens, ils invoquent leur Seigneur en revenant à Lui repentants. Puis s'Il leur fait goûter de Sa part une miséricorde, voilà qu'une partie d'entre eux donnent à leur Seigneur des associés

And when adversity touches the people, they call upon their Lord, turning in repentance to Him. Then when He lets them taste mercy from Him, at once a party of them associate others with their Lord

لِيَكْفُرُواْ بِمَآ ءَاتَيْنَٰهُمْۖ فَتَمَتَّعُواْ فَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَۖ ﰠ

Liyakfurû bimâ âtaynâhum fatamatta‘û fasawfa ta‘lamûn

en sorte qu'ils deviennent ingrats envers ce que Nous leur avons donné. «Et jouissez donc. Vous saurez bientôt»

So that they will deny what We have granted them. Then enjoy yourselves, for you are going to know

أَمَ اَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَٰناٗ فَهُوَ يَتَكَلَّمُ بِمَا كَانُواْ بِهِۦ يُشْرِكُونَۖ ﰡ

Ama nzalnâ ‘alayhim sultânan fahuwa yatakallamu bimâ kânû bihî yushrikûn

Avons-Nous fait descendre sur eux une autorité (un Livre) telle qu'elle parle de ce qu'ils Lui associaient

Or have We sent down to them an authority, and it speaks of what they were associating with Him

وَإِذَآ أَذَقْنَا اَ۬لنَّاسَ رَحْمَةٗ فَرِحُواْ بِهَاۖ وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ سَيِّئَةُۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَتَ اَيْدِيهِمُۥٓ إِذَا هُمْ يَقْنَطُونَۖ ﰢ

Wa'idhâ adhaqnâ nnâsa rahmatan farihû bihâ wa'in tusibhum sayyî'atum bimâ qaddamata ydîhimû idhâ hum yaqnatûn

Et quand Nous faisons goûter une miséricorde aux gens, ils en exultent. Mais si un malheur les atteint à cause de ce que leurs propres mains ont préparé, voilà qu'ils désespèrent

And when We let the people taste mercy, they rejoice therein, but if evil afflicts them for what their hands have put forth, immediately they despair

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوَاْ اَنَّ اَ۬للَّهَ يَبْسُطُ اُ۬لرِّزْقَ لِمَنْ يَّشَآءُ وَيَقْدِرُۖ إِنَّ فِے ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَٰتٖ لِّقَوْمٖ يُومِنُونَۖ ﰣ

Awalam yarawa nna llâha yabsutu rrizqa limay yashâ'u wayaqdiru inna fî dhâlika la'yâtil liqawmin yûminûn

N'ont-ils pas vu qu'Allah dispense Ses dons ou les restreint à qui Il veut? Il y a en cela des preuves pour des gens qui croient

Do they not see that Allah extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]? Indeed, in that are signs for a people who believe

فَـَٔاتِ ذَا اَ۬لْقُرْب۪ىٰ حَقَّهُۥ وَالْمِسْكِينَ وَابْنَ اَ۬لسَّبِيلِۖ ذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٞ لِّلذِينَ يُرِيدُونَ وَجْهَ اَ۬للَّهِۖ وَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ اُ۬لْمُفْلِحُونَۖ ﰤ

Fa'âti dhâ lqurbê haqqahû walmiskîna wabna ssabîli dhâlika khayrul lilladhîna yurîdûna wajha llâhi wa'ulâ'ika humu lmuflihûn

Donne donc au proche parent son dû, ainsi qu'au pauvre, et au voyageur en détresse. Cela est meilleur pour ceux qui recherchent la face d'Allah (Sa satisfaction); et ce sont eux qui réussissent

So give the relative his right, as well as the needy and the traveler. That is best for those who desire the countenance of Allah, and it is they who will be the successful

وَمَآ ءَاتَيْتُم مِّن رِّباٗ لِّتُرْبُواْ فِےٓ أَمْوَٰلِ اِ۬لنَّاسِ فَلَا يَرْبُواْ عِندَ اَ۬للَّهِۖ وَمَآ ءَاتَيْتُم مِّن زَكَوٰةٖ تُرِيدُونَ وَجْهَ اَ۬للَّهِ فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ اُ۬لْمُضْعِفُونَۖ ﰥ

Wamâ âtaytum mir ribal liturbû fî amwâli nnâsi falâ yarbû ‘inda llâhi wamâ âtaytum min zakawâtin turîdûna wajha llâhi fa'ulâ'ika humu lmud‘ifûn

Tout ce que vous donnerez à usure pour augmenter vos biens aux dépens des biens d'autrui ne les accroît pas auprès d'Allah, mais ce que vous donnez comme Zakât, tout en cherchant la Face d'Allah (Sa satisfaction)... Ceux-là verront [leurs récompenses] multipliées

And whatever you give for interest to increase within the wealth of people will not increase with Allah. But what you give in zakah, desiring the countenance of Allah - those are the multipliers

اَ۬للَّهُ اُ۬لذِے خَلَقَكُمْ ثُمَّ رَزَقَكُمْ ثُمَّ يُمِيتُكُمْ ثُمَّ يُحْيِيكُمْۖ هَلْ مِن شُرَكَآئِكُم مَّنْ يَّفْعَلُ مِن ذَٰلِكُم مِّن شَےْءٖۖ سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰل۪ىٰ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَۖ ﰦ

Allâhu lladhî khalaqakum thumma razaqakum thumma yumîtukum thumma yuhyîkum hal min shurakâ'ikum may yaf‘alu min dhâlikum min shay'in subhânahû wata‘âlê ‘ammâ yushrikûn

C'est Allah qui vous a créés et vous a nourris. Ensuite Il vous fera mourir, puis Il vous redonnera vie. Y en a-t-il, parmi vos associés, qui fasse quoi que ce soit de tout cela? Gloire à Lui! Il transcende ce qu'on Lui associe

Allah is the one who created you, then provided for you, then will cause you to die, and then will give you life. Are there any of your "partners" who does anything of that? Exalted is He and high above what they associate with Him

۞ ظَهَرَ اَ۬لْفَسَادُ فِے اِ۬لْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ بِمَا كَسَبَتَ اَيْدِے اِ۬لنَّاسِ لِيُذِيقَهُم بَعْضَ اَ۬لذِے عَمِلُواْ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَۖ ﰧ

Zahara lfasâdu fî lbarri walbahri bimâ kasabata ydî nnâsi liyudhîqahum ba‘da lladhî ‘amilû la‘allahum yarji‘ûn

La corruption est apparue sur la terre et dans la mer à cause de ce que les gens ont accompli de leurs propres mains; afin qu'[Allah] leur fasse goûter une partie de ce qu'ils ont œuvré; peut-être reviendront-ils (vers Allah)

Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea by [reason of] what the hands of people have earned so He may let them taste part of [the consequence of] what they have done that perhaps they will return [to righteousness]

قُلْ سِيرُواْ فِے اِ۬لَارْضِ فَانظُرُواْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ اُ۬لذِينَ مِن قَبْلُۖ كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّشْرِكِينَۖ ﰨ

Qul sîrû fî lardi fânzurû kayfa kâna ‘âqibatu lladhîna min qablu kâna aktharuhum mushrikîn

Dis: «Parcourez la terre et regardez ce qu'il est advenu de ceux qui ont vécu avant. La plupart d'entre eux étaient des associateurs»

Say, [O Muhammad], "Travel through the land and observe how was the end of those before. Most of them were associators [of others with Allah]

فَأَقِمْ وَجْهَكَ لِلدِّينِ اِ۬لْقَيِّمِ مِن قَبْلِ أَنْ يَّاتِيَ يَوْمٞ لَّا مَرَدَّ لَهُۥ مِنَ اَ۬للَّهِۖ يَوْمَئِذٖ يَصَّدَّعُونَۖ ﰩ

Fa'aqim wajhaka liddîni lqayyimi min qabli ay yâtiya yawmul lâ maradda lahû mina llâhi yawma'idhin yassadda‘ûn

Dirige tout ton être vers la religion de droiture, avant que ne vienne d'Allah un jour qu'on ne peut repousser. Ce jour-là [les gens] seront divisés

So direct your face toward the correct religion before a Day comes from Allah of which there is no repelling. That Day, they will be divided

مَن كَفَرَ فَعَلَيْهِ كُفْرُهُۥۖ وَمَنْ عَمِلَ صَٰلِحاٗ فَلِأَنفُسِهِمْ يَمْهَدُونَ ﰪ

Man kafara fa‘alayhi kufruhû waman ‘amila sâlihan fali'anfusihim yamhadûn

Celui qui aura mécru subira [les conséquences] de son infidélité. Et quiconque aura œuvré en bien... C'est pour eux-mêmes qu'ils préparent (leur avenir)

Whoever disbelieves - upon him is [the consequence of] his disbelief. And whoever does righteousness - they are for themselves preparing

لِيَجْزِيَ اَ۬لذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ اُ۬لصَّٰلِحَٰتِ مِن فَضْلِهِۦٓۖ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُحِبُّ اُ۬لْكٰ۪فِرِينَۖ ﰫ

Liyajziya lladhîna âmanû wa‘amilû ssâlihâti min fadlihî innahû lâ yuhibbu lkêfirîn

afin qu'[Allah] récompense par Sa grâce ceux qui croient et accomplissent les bonnes œuvres. En vérité, Il n'aime pas les infidèles

That He may reward those who have believed and done righteous deeds out of His bounty. Indeed, He does not like the disbelievers

وَمِنَ اٰيَٰتِهِۦٓ أَنْ يُّرْسِلَ اَ۬لرِّيَاحَ مُبَشِّرَٰتٖ وَلِيُذِيقَكُم مِّن رَّحْمَتِهِۦ وَلِتَجْرِيَ اَ۬لْفُلْكُ بِأَمْرِهِۦ وَلِتَبْتَغُواْ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَۖ ﰬ

Wamina âyâtihî ay yursila rriyâha mubashshirâtin waliyudhîqakum mir rahmatihî walitajriya lfulku bi'amrihî walitabtaghû min fadlihî wala‘allakum tashkurûn

Parmi Ses signes, Il envoie les vents comme annonciateurs, pour vous faire goûter de Sa miséricorde et pour que le vaisseau vogue, par Son ordre, et que vous recherchiez de Sa grâce. Peut-être seriez-vous reconnaissants

And of His signs is that He sends the winds as bringers of good tidings and to let you taste His mercy and so the ships may sail at His command and so you may seek of His bounty, and perhaps you will be grateful

وَلَقَدَ اَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ رُسُلاً اِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِمْ فَجَآءُوهُم بِالْبَيِّنَٰتِ فَانتَقَمْنَا مِنَ اَ۬لذِينَ أَجْرَمُواْۖ وَكَانَ حَقّاً عَلَيْنَا نَصْرُ اُ۬لْمُومِنِينَۖ ﰭ

Walaqada rsalnâ min qablika rusulani lâ qawmihim fajâ'ûhum bilbayyinâti fântaqamnâ mina lladhîna ajramû wakâna haqqan ‘alaynâ nasru lmûminîn

Nous avons effectivement envoyé avant toi des Messagers vers leurs peuples et ils leur apportèrent les preuves. Nous Nous vengeâmes de ceux qui commirent les crimes [de la négation]; et c'était Notre devoir de secourir les croyants

And We have already sent messengers before you to their peoples, and they came to them with clear evidences; then We took retribution from those who committed crimes, and incumbent upon Us was support of the believers

اَ۬للَّهُ اُ۬لذِے يُرْسِلُ اُ۬لرِّيَٰحَ فَتُثِيرُ سَحَاباٗ فَيَبْسُطُهُۥ فِے اِ۬لسَّمَآءِ كَيْفَ يَشَآءُ وَيَجْعَلُهُۥ كِسَفاٗ فَتَرَى اَ۬لْوَدْقَ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ خِلَٰلِهِۦۖ فَإِذَآ أَصَابَ بِهِۦ مَنْ يَّشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِۦٓ إِذَا هُمْ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَۖ ﰮ

Allâhu lladhî yursilu rriyâha fatuthîru sahâban fayabsutuhû fî ssamâ'i kayfa yashâ'u wayaj‘aluhû kisafan fatarâ lwadqa yakhruju min khilâlihî fa'idhâ asâba bihî may yashâ'u min ‘ibâdihî idhâ hum yastabshirûn

Allah, c'est Lui qui envoie les vents qui soulèvent des nuages; puis Il les étend dans le ciel comme Il veut; et Il les met en morceaux. Tu vois alors la pluie sortir de leurs profondeurs. Puis, lorsqu'Il atteint avec elle qui Il veut parmi Ses serviteurs, les voilà qui se réjouissent

It is Allah who sends the winds, and they stir the clouds and spread them in the sky however He wills, and He makes them fragments so you see the rain emerge from within them. And when He causes it to fall upon whom He wills of His servants, immediately they rejoice

وَإِن كَانُواْ مِن قَبْلِ أَنْ يُّنَزَّلَ عَلَيْهِم مِّن قَبْلِهِۦ لَمُبْلِسِينَۖ ﰯ

Wa'in kânû min qabli ay yunazzala ‘alayhim min qablihî lamublisîn

même s'ils étaient auparavant, avant qu'on ne l'ait fait descendre sur eux, désespérés

Although they were, before it was sent down upon them - before that, in despair

فَانظُرِ اِلَىٰٓ أَثَرِ رَحْمَتِ اِ۬للَّهِ كَيْفَ يُحْيِ اِ۬لَارْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَآۖ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ لَمُحْيِ اِ۬لْمَوْت۪ىٰۖ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَےْءٖ قَدِيرٞۖ ﰰ

Fânzuri lâ athari rahmati llâhi kayfa yuhyi larda ba‘da mawtihâ inna dhâlika lamuhyi lmawtê wahuwa ‘alâ kulli shay'in qadîr

Regarde donc les effets de la miséricorde d'Allah comment Il redonne la vie à la terre après sa mort. C'est Lui qui fait revivre les morts et Il est Omnipotent

So observe the effects of the mercy of Allah - how He gives life to the earth after its lifelessness. Indeed, that [same one] will give life to the dead, and He is over all things competent

وَلَئِنَ اَرْسَلْنَا رِيحاٗ فَرَأَوْهُ مُصْفَرّاٗ لَّظَلُّواْ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ يَكْفُرُونَۖ ﰱ

Wala'ina rsalnâ rîhan fara'awhu musfarral lazallû mim ba‘dihî yakfurûn

Et si Nous envoyons un vent et qu'ils voient jaunir [leur végétation], ils demeurent après cela ingrats (oubliant les bienfaits antérieurs)

But if We should send a [bad] wind and they saw [their crops] turned yellow, they would remain thereafter disbelievers

فَإِنَّكَ لَا تُسْمِعُ اُ۬لْمَوْت۪ىٰ وَلَا تُسْمِعُ اُ۬لصُّمَّ اَ۬لدُّعَآءَ ا۪ذَا وَلَّوْاْ مُدْبِرِينَۖ ﰲ

Fa'innaka lâ tusmi‘u lmawtê walâ tusmi‘u ssumma ddu‘â'a dhâ wallaw mudbirîn

En vérité, tu ne fais pas entendre les morts; et tu ne fais pas entendre aux sourds l'appel, s'ils s'en vont en tournant le dos

So indeed, you will not make the dead hear, nor will you make the deaf hear the call when they turn their backs, retreating

وَمَآ أَنتَ بِهَٰدِ اِ۬لْعُمْيِ عَن ضَلَٰلَتِهِمُۥٓۖ إِن تُسْمِعُ إِلَّا مَنْ يُّومِنُ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا فَهُم مُّسْلِمُونَۖ ﰳ

Wamâ anta bihâdi l‘umyi ‘an dalâlatihimû in tusmi‘u illâ may yûminu bi'âyâtinâ fahum muslimûn

Tu n'es pas celui qui guide les aveugles hors de leur égarement. Tu ne fais entendre que ceux qui croient en Nos versets et qui sont alors entièrement soumis [musulmans]

And you cannot guide the blind away from their error. You will only make hear those who believe in Our verses so they are Muslims [in submission to Allah]

۞ اَ۬للَّهُ اُ۬لذِے خَلَقَكُم مِّن ضُعْفٖ ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ ضُعْفٖ قُوَّةٗ ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ قُوَّةٖ ضُعْفاٗ وَشَيْبَةٗۖ يَخْلُقُ مَا يَشَآءُۖ وَهُوَ اَ۬لْعَلِيمُ اُ۬لْقَدِيرُۖ ﰴ

Allâhu lladhî khalaqakum min du‘fin thumma ja‘ala mim ba‘di du‘fin quwwatan thumma ja‘ala mim ba‘di quwwatin du‘fan washaybatan yakhluqu mâ yashâ'u wahuwa l‘alîmu lqadîr

Allah, c'est Lui qui vous a créés faibles; puis après la faiblesse, Il vous donne la force; puis après la force, Il vous réduit à la faiblesse et à la vieillesse: Il crée ce qu'Il veut et c'est Lui l'Omniscient, l'Omnipotent

Allah is the one who created you from weakness, then made after weakness strength, then made after strength weakness and white hair. He creates what He wills, and He is the Knowing, the Competent

وَيَوْمَ تَقُومُ اُ۬لسَّاعَةُ يُقْسِمُ اُ۬لْمُجْرِمُونَ مَا لَبِثُواْ غَيْرَ سَاعَةٖۖ كَذَٰلِكَ كَانُواْ يُوفَكُونَۖ ﰵ

Wayawma taqûmu ssâ‘atu yuqsimu lmujrimûna mâ labithû ghayra sâ‘atin kadhâlika kânû yûfakûn

Et le jour où l'Heure arrivera, les criminels jureront qu'ils n'ont demeuré qu'une heure. C'est ainsi qu'ils ont été détournés (de la vérité)

And the Day the Hour appears the criminals will swear they had remained but an hour. Thus they were deluded

وَقَالَ اَ۬لذِينَ أُوتُواْ اُ۬لْعِلْمَ وَالِايمَٰنَ لَقَدْ لَبِثْتُمْ فِے كِتَٰبِ اِ۬للَّهِ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ اِ۬لْبَعْثِۖ فَهَٰذَا يَوْمُ اُ۬لْبَعْثِ وَلَٰكِنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَۖ ﰶ

Waqâla lladhîna ûtû l‘ilma walîmâna laqad labithtum fî kitâbi llâhi ilâ yawmi lba‘thi fahâdhâ yawmu lba‘thi walâkinnakum kuntum lâ ta‘lamûn

tandis que ceux à qui le savoir et la foi furent donnés diront: «Vous avez demeuré d'après le Décret d'Allah, jusqu'au Jour de la Résurrection, voici le Jour de la Résurrection, - mais vous ne saviez point»

But those who were given knowledge and faith will say, "You remained the extent of Allah 's decree until the Day of Resurrection, and this is the Day of Resurrection, but you did not used to know

فَيَوْمَئِذٖ لَّا تَنفَعُ اُ۬لذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ مَعْذِرَتُهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُسْتَعْتَبُونَۖ ﰷ

Fayawma'idhil lâ tanfa‘u lladhîna zalamû ma‘dhiratuhum walâ hum yusta‘tabûn

ce jour-là donc, les excuses ne seront pas utiles aux injustes et on ne leur demandera pas à chercher à plaire à [Allah]

So that Day, their excuse will not benefit those who wronged, nor will they be asked to appease [Allah]

وَلَقَد ضَّرَبْنَا لِلنَّاسِ فِے هَٰذَا اَ۬لْقُرْءَانِ مِن كُلِّ مَثَلٖۖ وَلَئِن جِئْتَهُم بِـَٔايَةٖ لَّيَقُولَنَّ اَ۬لذِينَ كَفَرُوٓاْ إِنَ اَنتُمُۥٓ إِلَّا مُبْطِلُونَۖ ﰸ

Walaqad darabnâ linnâsi fî hâdhâ lqur'âni min kulli mathalin wala'in jî'tahum bi'âyatil layaqûlanna lladhîna kafarû ina ntumû illâ mubtilûn

Et dans ce Coran, Nous avons certes cité, pour les gens, des exemples de toutes sortes. Et si tu leur apportes un prodige, ceux qui ne croient pas diront: «Certes, vous n'êtes que des imposteurs»

And We have certainly presented to the people in this Qur'an from every [kind of] example. But, [O Muhammad], if you should bring them a sign, the disbelievers will surely say, "You [believers] are but falsifiers

كَذَٰلِكَ يَطْبَعُ اُ۬للَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِ اِ۬لذِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَۖ ﰹ

Kadhâlika yatba‘u llâhu ‘alâ qulûbi lladhîna lâ ya‘lamûn

C'est ainsi qu'Allah scelle les cœurs de ceux qui ne savent pas

Thus does Allah seal the hearts of those who do not know

فَاصْبِرِۖ اِنَّ وَعْدَ اَ۬للَّهِ حَقّٞۖ وَلَا يَسْتَخِفَّنَّكَ اَ۬لذِينَ لَا يُوقِنُونَۖ ﰺ

Fasbiri nna wa‘da llâhi haqqun walâ yastakhiffannaka lladhîna lâ yûqinûn

Sois donc patient, car la promesse d'Allah est vérité. Et que ceux qui ne croient pas fermement ne t'ébranlent pas

So be patient. Indeed, the promise of Allah is truth. And let them not disquiet you who are not certain [in faith]
