اَ۪قْتَرَبَ لِلنَّاسِ حِسَابُهُمْ وَهُمْ فِے غَفْلَةٖ مُّعْرِضُونَۖ ﰀ

Aqtaraba linnâsi hisâbuhum wahum fî ghaflatim mu‘ridûn

[L'échéance] du règlement de leur compte approche pour les hommes, alors que dans leur insouciance ils s'en détournent

[The time of] their account has approached for the people, while they are in heedlessness turning away

مَا يَاتِيهِم مِّن ذِكْرٖ مِّن رَّبِّهِم مُّحْدَثٍ اِلَّا اَ۪سْتَمَعُوهُ وَهُمْ يَلْعَبُونَ ﰁ

Mâ yâtîhim min dhikrim mir rabbihim muhdathini llâ stama‘ûhu wahum yal‘abûn

Aucun rappel [de révélation] récente ne leur vient de leur Seigneur, sans qu'ils ne l'entendent en s'amusant

No mention comes to them anew from their Lord except that they listen to it while they are at play

لَٰهِيَةٗ قُلُوبُهُمْۖ وَأَسَرُّواْ اُ۬لنَّجْوَى اَ۬لذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ هَلْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا بَشَرٞ مِّثْلُكُمُۥٓۖ أَفَتَاتُونَ اَ۬لسِّحْرَ وَأَنتُمْ تُبْصِرُونَۖ ﰂ

Lâhiyatan qulûbuhum wa'asarrû nnajwâ lladhîna zalamû hal hâdhâ illâ basharum mithlukumû afatâtûna ssihra wa'antum tubsirûn

leurs cœurs distraits; et les injustes tiennent des conversations secrètes et disent: «Ce n'est là qu'un être humain semblable à vous? Allez-vous donc vous adonner à la magie alors que vous voyez clair?»

With their hearts distracted. And those who do wrong conceal their private conversation, [saying], "Is this [Prophet] except a human being like you? So would you approach magic while you are aware [of it]

قُل رَّبِّے يَعْلَمُ اُ۬لْقَوْلَ فِے اِ۬لسَّمَآءِ وَالَارْضِۖ وَهُوَ اَ۬لسَّمِيعُ اُ۬لْعَلِيمُۖ ﰃ

Qul rabbî ya‘lamu lqawla fî ssamâ'i walardi wahuwa ssamî‘u l‘alîm

Il a répondu: «Mon Seigneur sait tout ce qui se dit au ciel et sur la terre; et Il est l'Audient, l'Omniscient»

The Prophet said, "My Lord knows whatever is said throughout the heaven and earth, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing

بَلْ قَالُوٓاْ أَضْغَٰثُ أَحْلَٰمِۢ بَلِ اِ۪فْتَر۪يٰهُ بَلْ هُوَ شَاعِرٞۖ فَلْيَاتِنَا بِـَٔايَةٖ كَمَآ أُرْسِلَ اَ۬لَاوَّلُونَۖ ﰄ

Bal qâlû adghâthu ahlâmim bali ftarêhu bal huwa shâ‘irun falyâtinâ bi'âyatin kamâ ursila lawwalûn

Mais ils dirent: «Voilà plutôt un amas de rêves! Ou bien Il l'a inventé. Ou, c'est plutôt un poète. Qu'il nous apporte donc un signe [identique] à celui dont furent chargés les premiers envoyés»

But they say, "[The revelation is but] a mixture of false dreams; rather, he has invented it; rather, he is a poet. So let him bring us a sign just as the previous [messengers] were sent [with miracles]

مَآ ءَامَنَتْ قَبْلَهُم مِّن قَرْيَةٍ اَهْلَكْنَٰهَآۖ أَفَهُمْ يُومِنُونَۖ ﰅ

Mâ âmanat qablahum min qaryatina hlaknâhâ afahum yûminûn

Pas une seule cité parmi celles que Nous avons fait périr avant eux n'avait cru [à la vue des miracles]. Ceux-ci croiront-ils donc

Not a [single] city which We destroyed believed before them, so will they believe

وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَا قَبْلَكَ إِلَّا رِجَالاٗ يُوح۪ىٰٓ إِلَيْهِمْ فَسْـَٔلُوٓاْ أَهْلَ اَ۬لذِّكْرِ إِن كُنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَۖ ﰆ

Wamâ arsalnâ qablaka illâ rijâlan yûhê ilayhim fas'alû ahla dhdhikri in kuntum lâ ta‘lamûn

Nous n'avons envoyé avant toi que des hommes à qui Nous faisions des révélations. Demandez donc aux érudits du Livre, si vous ne savez pas

And We sent not before you, [O Muhammad], except men to whom We revealed [the message], so ask the people of the message if you do not know

وَمَا جَعَلْنَٰهُمْ جَسَداٗ لَّا يَاكُلُونَ اَ۬لطَّعَامَۖ وَمَا كَانُواْ خَٰلِدِينَۖ ﰇ

Wamâ ja‘alnâhum jasadal lâ yâkulûna tta‘âma wamâ kânû khâlidîn

Et Nous n'en n'avons pas fait des corps qui ne consommaient pas de nourriture. Et ils n'étaient pas éternels

And We did not make the prophets forms not eating food, nor were they immortal [on earth]

ثُمَّ صَدَقْنَٰهُمُ اُ۬لْوَعْدَ فَأَنجَيْنَٰهُمْ وَمَن نَّشَآءُ وَأَهْلَكْنَا اَ۬لْمُسْرِفِينَۖ ﰈ

Thumma sadaqnâhumu lwa‘da fa'anjaynâhum waman nashâ'u wa'ahlaknâ lmusrifîn

Puis Nous réalisâmes la promesse (qui leur avait été faite). Nous les sauvâmes avec ceux que Nous voulûmes [sauver]. Et Nous fîmes périr les outranciers

Then We fulfilled for them the promise, and We saved them and whom We willed and destroyed the transgressors

لَقَدَ اَنزَلْنَآ إِلَيْكُمْ كِتَٰباٗ فِيهِ ذِكْرُكُمُۥٓۖ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَۖ ﰉ

Laqada nzalnâ ilaykum kitâban fîhi dhikrukumû afalâ ta‘qilûn

Nous avons assurément fait descendre vers vous un livre où se trouve votre rappel [ou votre renom]. Ne comprenez-vous donc pas

We have certainly sent down to you a Book in which is your mention. Then will you not reason

وَكَمْ قَصَمْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٖ كَانَت ظَّالِمَةٗ وَأَنشَأْنَا بَعْدَهَا قَوْماً اٰخَرِينَۖ ﰊ

Wakam qasamnâ min qaryatin kânat zâlimatan wa'ansha'nâ ba‘dahâ qawman âkharîn

Et que de cités qui ont commis des injustices, Nous avons brisées; et Nous avons créé d'autres peuples après eux

And how many a city which was unjust have We shattered and produced after it another people

فَلَمَّآ أَحَسُّواْ بَأْسَنَآ إِذَا هُم مِّنْهَا يَرْكُضُونَۖ ﰋ

Falammâ ahassû ba'sanâ idhâ hum minhâ yarkudûn

Quand [ces gens] sentirent Notre rigueur ils s'en enfuirent hâtivement

And when its inhabitants perceived Our punishment, at once they fled from it

لَا تَرْكُضُواْ وَارْجِعُوٓاْ إِلَىٰ مَآ أُتْرِفْتُمْ فِيهِ وَمَسَٰكِنِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُسْـَٔلُونَۖ ﰌ

Lâ tarkudû warji‘û ilâ mâ utriftum fîhi wamasâkinikum la‘allakum tus'alûn

Ne galopez point. Retournez plutôt au grand luxe où vous étiez et dans vos demeures, afin que vous soyez interrogés

[Some angels said], "Do not flee but return to where you were given luxury and to your homes - perhaps you will be questioned

قَالُواْ يَٰوَيْلَنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَٰلِمِينَۖ ﰍ

Qâlû yâwaylanâ innâ kunnâ zâlimîn

Ils dirent: «Malheur à nous! Nous étions vraiment injustes»

They said, "O woe to us! Indeed, we were wrongdoers

۞ فَمَا زَالَت تِّلْكَ دَعْو۪يٰهُمْ حَتَّىٰ جَعَلْنَٰهُمْ حَصِيداً خَٰمِدِينَۖ ﰎ

Famâ zâlat tilka da‘wêhum hattâ ja‘alnâhum hasîdan khâmidîn

Telle ne cessa d'être leur lamentation jusqu'à ce que Nous les eûmes moissonnés et éteints

And that declaration of theirs did not cease until We made them [as] a harvest [mowed down], extinguished [like a fire]

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا اَ۬لسَّمَآءَ وَالَارْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَٰعِبِينَۖ ﰏ

Wamâ khalaqnâ ssamâ'a walarda wamâ baynahumâ lâ‘ibîn

Ce n'est pas par jeu que Nous avons créé le ciel et la terre et ce qui est entre eux

And We did not create the heaven and earth and that between them in play

لَوَ اَرَدْنَآ أَن نَّتَّخِذَ لَهْواٗ لَّاتَّخَذْنَٰهُ مِن لَّدُنَّآۖ إِن كُنَّا فَٰعِلِينَۖ ﰐ

Lawa radnâ an nattakhidha lahwal lattakhadhnâhu mil ladunnâ in kunnâ fâ‘ilîn

Si Nous avions voulu prendre une distraction, Nous l'aurions prise de Nous-mêmes, si vraiment Nous avions voulu le faire

Had We intended to take a diversion, We could have taken it from [what is] with Us - if [indeed] We were to do so

بَلْ نَقْذِفُ بِالْحَقِّ عَلَى اَ۬لْبَٰطِلِ فَيَدْمَغُهُۥ فَإِذَا هُوَ زَاهِقٞۖ وَلَكُمُ اُ۬لْوَيْلُ مِمَّا تَصِفُونَۖ ﰑ

Bal naqdhifu bilhaqqi ‘alâ lbâtili fayadmaghuhû fa'idhâ huwa zâhiqun walakumu lwaylu mimmâ tasifûn

Bien au contraire, Nous lançons contre le faux la vérité qui le subjugue, et le voilà qui disparaît. Et malheur à vous pour ce que vous attribuez [injustement à Allah]

Rather, We dash the truth upon falsehood, and it destroys it, and thereupon it departs. And for you is destruction from that which you describe

وَلَهُۥ مَن فِے اِ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالَارْضِۖ وَمَنْ عِندَهُۥ لَا يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِهِۦ وَلَا يَسْتَحْسِرُونَۖ ﰒ

Walahû man fî ssamâwâti walardi waman ‘indahû lâ yastakbirûna ‘an ‘ibâdatihî walâ yastahsirûn

A Lui seul appartiennent tous ceux qui sont dans les cieux et sur la terre. Ceux qui sont auprès de Lui [les Anges] ne se considèrent point trop grands pour L'adorer et ne s'en lassent pas

To Him belongs whoever is in the heavens and the earth. And those near Him are not prevented by arrogance from His worship, nor do they tire

يُسَبِّحُونَ اَ۬ليْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ لَا يَفْتُرُونَۖ ﰓ

Yusabbihûna llayla wannahâra lâ yafturûn

Ils exaltent Sa Gloire nuit et jour et ne s'interrompent point

They exalt [Him] night and day [and] do not slacken

أَمِ اِ۪تَّخَذُوٓاْ ءَالِهَةٗ مِّنَ اَ۬لَارْضِ هُمْ يُنشِرُونَۖ ﰔ

Ami ttakhadhû âlihatam mina lardi hum yunshirûn

Ont-ils pris des divinités qui peuvent ressusciter (les morts) de la terre

Or have men taken for themselves gods from the earth who resurrect [the dead]

لَوْ كَانَ فِيهِمَآ ءَالِهَةٌ اِلَّا اَ۬للَّهُ لَفَسَدَتَاۖ فَسُبْحَٰنَ اَ۬للَّهِ رَبِّ اِ۬لْعَرْشِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَۖ ﰕ

Law kâna fîhimâ âlihatuni llâ llâhu lafasadatâ fasubhâna llâhi rabbi l‘arshi ‘ammâ yasifûn

S'il y avait dans le ciel et la terre des divinités autres qu'Allah, tous deux seraient certes dans le désordre. Gloire, donc à Allah, Seigneur du Trône; Il est au-dessus de ce qu'ils Lui attribuent

Had there been within the heavens and earth gods besides Allah, they both would have been ruined. So exalted is Allah, Lord of the Throne, above what they describe

لَا يُسْـَٔلُ عَمَّا يَفْعَلُۖ وَهُمْ يُسْـَٔلُونَۖ ﰖ

Lâ yus'alu ‘ammâ yaf‘alu wahum yus'alûn

Il n'est pas interrogé sur ce qu'Il fait, mais ce sont eux qui devront rendre compte [de leurs actes]

He is not questioned about what He does, but they will be questioned

أَمِ اِ۪تَّخَذُواْ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ ءَالِهَةٗۖ قُلْ هَاتُواْ بُرْهَٰنَكُمْۖ هَٰذَا ذِكْرُ مَن مَّعِے وَذِكْرُ مَن قَبْلِےۖ بَلَ اَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ اَ۬لْحَقَّ فَهُم مُّعْرِضُونَۖ ﰗ

Ami ttakhadhû min dûnihî âlihatan qul hâtû burhânakum hâdhâ dhikru mam ma‘î wadhikru man qablî bala ktharuhum lâ ya‘lamûna lhaqqa fahum mu‘ridûn

Ont-ils pris des divinités en dehors de Lui? Dis: «Apportez votre preuve». Ceci est la révélation de ceux qui sont avec moi et de ceux qui étaient avant moi. Mais la plupart d'entre eux ne connaissent pas la vérité et s'en écartent

Or have they taken gods besides Him? Say, [O Muhammad], "Produce your proof. This [Qur'an] is the message for those with me and the message of those before me." But most of them do not know the truth, so they are turning away

وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ مِن رَّسُولٍ اِلَّا يُوح۪ىٰٓ إِلَيْهِ أَنَّهُۥ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنَا فَاعْبُدُونِۖ ﰘ

Wamâ arsalnâ min qablika mir rasûlini llâ yûhê ilayhi annahû lâ ilâha illâ anâ fa‘budûn

Et Nous n'avons envoyé avant toi aucun Messager à qui Nous n'ayons révélé: «Point de divinité en dehors de Moi. Adorez-Moi donc»

And We sent not before you any messenger except that We revealed to him that, "There is no deity except Me, so worship Me

وَقَالُواْ اُ۪تَّخَذَ اَ۬لرَّحْمَٰنُ وَلَداٗۖ سُبْحَٰنَهُۥۖ بَلْ عِبَادٞ مُّكْرَمُونَۖ ﰙ

Waqâlû ttakhadha rrahmânu waladan subhânahû bal ‘ibâdum mukramûn

Et ils dirent: «Le Tout Miséricordieux s'est donné un enfant». Pureté à Lui! Mais ce sont plutôt des serviteurs honorés

And they say, "The Most Merciful has taken a son." Exalted is He! Rather, they are [but] honored servants

لَا يَسْبِقُونَهُۥ بِالْقَوْلِ وَهُم بِأَمْرِهِۦ يَعْمَلُونَۖ ﰚ

Lâ yasbiqûnahû bilqawli wahum bi'amrihî ya‘malûn

Ils ne devancent pas Son Commandement et agissent selon Ses ordres

They cannot precede Him in word, and they act by His command

يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْۖ وَلَا يَشْفَعُونَ إِلَّا لِمَنِ اِ۪رْتَض۪ىٰ وَهُم مِّنْ خَشْيَتِهِۦ مُشْفِقُونَۖ ﰛ

Ya‘lamu mâ bayna aydîhim wamâ khalfahum walâ yashfa‘ûna illâ limani rtadê wahum min khashyatihî mushfiqûn

Il sait ce qui est devant eux et ce qui derrière eux. Et ils n'intercèdent qu'en faveur de ceux qu'Il a agréés [tout en étant] pénétrés de Sa crainte

He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they cannot intercede except on behalf of one whom He approves. And they, from fear of Him, are apprehensive

وَمَنْ يَّقُلْ مِنْهُمُۥٓ إِنِّيَ إِلَٰهٞ مِّن دُونِهِۦ فَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِيهِ جَهَنَّمَۖ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِے اِ۬لظَّٰلِمِينَۖ ﰜ

Wamay yaqul minhumû inniya ilâhum min dûnihî fadhâlika najzîhi jahannama kadhâlika najzî zzâlimîn

Et quiconque d'entre eux dirait: «Je suis une divinité en dehors de Lui». Nous le rétribuerons de l'Enfer. C'est ainsi que Nous rétribuons les injustes

And whoever of them should say, "Indeed, I am a god besides Him"- that one We would recompense with Hell. Thus do We recompense the wrongdoers

۞ أَوَلَمْ يَرَ اَ۬لذِينَ كَفَرُوٓاْ أَنَّ اَ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالَارْضَ كَانَتَا رَتْقاٗ فَفَتَقْنَٰهُمَاۖ وَجَعَلْنَا مِنَ اَ۬لْمَآءِ كُلَّ شَےْءٍ حَيٍّۖ اَفَلَا يُومِنُونَۖ ﰝ

Awalam yara lladhîna kafarû anna ssamâwâti walarda kânatâ ratqan fafataqnâhumâ waja‘alnâ mina lmâ'i kulla shay'in hayyina falâ yûminûn

Ceux qui ont mécru, n'ont-ils pas vu que les cieux et la terre formaient une masse compacte? Ensuite Nous les avons séparés et fait de l'eau toute chose vivante. Ne croiront-ils donc pas

Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe

وَجَعَلْنَا فِے اِ۬لَارْضِ رَوَٰسِيَ أَن تَمِيدَ بِهِمْۖ وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا فِجَاجاٗ سُبُلاٗ لَّعَلَّهُمْ يَهْتَدُونَۖ ﰞ

Waja‘alnâ fî lardi rawâsiya an tamîda bihim waja‘alnâ fîhâ fijâjan subulal la‘allahum yahtadûn

Et Nous avons placé des montagnes fermes dans la terre, afin qu'elle ne s'ébranle pas en les [entraînant]. Et Nous y avons placé des défilés servant de chemins afin qu'ils se guident

And We placed within the earth firmly set mountains, lest it should shift with them, and We made therein [mountain] passes [as] roads that they might be guided

وَجَعَلْنَا اَ۬لسَّمَآءَ سَقْفاٗ مَّحْفُوظاٗۖ وَهُمْ عَنَ اٰيَٰتِهَا مُعْرِضُونَۖ ﰟ

Waja‘alnâ ssamâ'a saqfam mahfûzan wahum ‘ana âyâtihâ mu‘ridûn

Et Nous avons fait du ciel un toit protégé. Et cependant ils se détournent de ses merveilles

And We made the sky a protected ceiling, but they, from its signs, are turning away

وَهُوَ اَ۬لذِے خَلَقَ اَ۬ليْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ وَالشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَۖ كُلّٞ فِے فَلَكٖ يَسْبَحُونَۖ ﰠ

Wahuwa lladhî khalaqa llayla wannahâra washshamsa walqamara kullun fî falakin yasbahûn

Et c'est Lui qui a créé la nuit et le jour, le soleil et la lune; chacun voguant dans une orbite

And it is He who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon; all [heavenly bodies] in an orbit are swimming

وَمَا جَعَلْنَا لِبَشَرٖ مِّن قَبْلِكَ اَ۬لْخُلْدَۖ أَفَإِيْن مِّتَّ فَهُمُ اُ۬لْخَٰلِدُونَۖ ﰡ

Wamâ ja‘alnâ libasharim min qablika lkhulda afa'iym mitta fahumu lkhâlidûn

Et Nous n'avons attribué l'immortalité à nul homme avant toi. Est-ce que si tu meurs, toi, ils seront, eux, éternels

And We did not grant to any man before you eternity [on earth]; so if you die - would they be eternal

كُلُّ نَفْسٖ ذَآئِقَةُ اُ۬لْمَوْتِۖ وَنَبْلُوكُم بِالشَّرِّ وَالْخَيْرِ فِتْنَةٗۖ وَإِلَيْنَا تُرْجَعُونَۖ ﰢ

Kullu nafsin dhâ'iqatu lmawti wanablûkum bishsharri walkhayri fitnatan wa'ilaynâ turja‘ûn

Toute âme doit goûter la mort. Nous vous éprouverons par le mal et par le bien [à titre] de tentation. Et c'est à Nous que vous serez ramenés

Every soul will taste death. And We test you with evil and with good as trial; and to Us you will be returned

وَإِذَا ر۪ء۪اكَ اَ۬لذِينَ كَفَرُوٓاْ إِنْ يَّتَّخِذُونَكَ إِلَّا هُزُؤاًۖ اَهَٰذَا اَ۬لذِے يَذْكُرُ ءَالِهَتَكُمْ وَهُم بِذِكْرِ اِ۬لرَّحْمَٰنِ هُمْ كَٰفِرُونَۖ ﰣ

Wa'idhâ re'êka lladhîna kafarû iy yattakhidhûnaka illâ huzu'ana hâdhâ lladhî yadhkuru âlihatakum wahum bidhikri rrahmâni hum kâfirûn

Quand les mécréants te voient, ils ne te prennent qu'en dérision (disant): «Quoi! Est-ce-là celui qui médit de vos divinités?» Et ils nient [tout] rappel du Tout Miséricordieux

And when those who disbelieve see you, [O Muhammad], they take you not except in ridicule, [saying], "Is this the one who insults your gods?" And they are, at the mention of the Most Merciful, disbelievers

خُلِقَ اَ۬لِانسَٰنُ مِنْ عَجَلٖۖ سَأُوْرِيكُمُۥٓ ءَايَٰتِے فَلَا تَسْتَعْجِلُونِۖ ﰤ

Khuliqa linsânu min ‘ajalin sa'urîkumû âyâtî falâ tasta‘jilûn

L'homme a été créé prompt dans sa nature. Je vous montrerai Mes signes [la réalisation de Mes menaces]. Ne me hâtez donc pas

Man was created of haste. I will show you My signs, so do not impatiently urge Me

وَيَقُولُونَ مَت۪ىٰ هَٰذَا اَ۬لْوَعْدُ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَۖ ﰥ

Wayaqûlûna matê hâdhâ lwa‘du in kuntum sâdiqîn

Et ils disent: «A quand cette promesse si vous êtes véridiques?»

And they say, "When is this promise, if you should be truthful

لَوْ يَعْلَمُ اُ۬لذِينَ كَفَرُواْ حِينَ لَا يَكُفُّونَ عَنْ وُّجُوهِهِمُ اُ۬لنَّارَ وَلَا عَن ظُهُورِهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَۖ ﰦ

Law ya‘lamu lladhîna kafarû hîna lâ yakuffûna ‘aw wujûhihimu nnâra walâ ‘an zuhûrihim walâ hum yunsarûn

Si [seulement] les mécréants connaissaient le moment où ils ne pourront empêcher le feu de leurs visages ni de leurs dos, et où ils ne seront point secourus

If those who disbelieved but knew the time when they will not avert the Fire from their faces or from their backs and they will not be aided

بَلْ تَاتِيهِم بَغْتَةٗ فَتَبْهَتُهُمْ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ رَدَّهَا وَلَا هُمْ يُنظَرُونَۖ ﰧ

Bal tâtîhim baghtatan fatabhatuhum falâ yastatî‘ûna raddahâ walâ hum yunzarûn

Mais non, cela leur viendra subitement et ils seront alors stupéfaits; ils ne pourront pas le repousser et on ne leur donnera pas de répit

Rather, it will come to them unexpectedly and bewilder them, and they will not be able to repel it, nor will they be reprieved

وَلَقَدُ اُ۟سْتُهْزِۓَ بِرُسُلٖ مِّن قَبْلِكَ فَحَاقَ بِالذِينَ سَخِرُواْ مِنْهُم مَّا كَانُواْ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَۖ ﰨ

Walaqadu stuhzî'a birusulim min qablika fahâqa billadhîna sakhirû minhum mâ kânû bihî yastahzi'ûn

On s'est moqué de messagers venus avant toi. Et ceux qui se sont moqués d'eux, se virent frapper de toutes parts par l'objet même de leurs moqueries

And already were messengers ridiculed before you, but those who mocked them were enveloped by what they used to ridicule

۞ قُلْ مَنْ يَّكْلَؤُكُم بِاليْلِ وَالنَّه۪ارِ مِنَ اَ۬لرَّحْمَٰنِۖ بَلْ هُمْ عَن ذِكْرِ رَبِّهِم مُّعْرِضُونَۖ ﰩ

Qul may yakla'ukum billayli wannahêri mina rrahmâni bal hum ‘an dhikri rabbihim mu‘ridûn

Dis: «Qui vous protège la nuit et le jour, contre le [châtiment] du Tout Miséricordieux?» Pourtant ils se détournent du rappel de leur Seigneur

Say, "Who can protect you at night or by day from the Most Merciful?" But they are, from the remembrance of their Lord, turning away

أَمْ لَهُمُۥٓ ءَالِهَةٞ تَمْنَعُهُم مِّن دُونِنَاۖ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ نَصْرَ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَلَا هُم مِّنَّا يُصْحَبُونَۖ ﰪ

Am lahumû âlihatun tamna‘uhum min dûninâ lâ yastatî‘ûna nasra anfusihim walâ hum minnâ yushabûn

Ont-ils donc des divinités en dehors de Nous, qui peuvent les protéger? Mais celles-ci ne peuvent ni se secourir elles-mêmes, ni se faire assister contre Nous

Or do they have gods to defend them other than Us? They are unable [even] to help themselves, nor can they be protected from Us

بَلْ مَتَّعْنَا هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ وَءَابَآءَهُمْ حَتَّىٰ طَالَ عَلَيْهِمُ اُ۬لْعُمُرُۖ أَفَلَا يَرَوْنَ أَنَّا نَاتِے اِ۬لَارْضَ نَنقُصُهَا مِنَ اَطْرَافِهَآۖ أَفَهُمُ اُ۬لْغَٰلِبُونَۖ ﰫ

Bal matta‘nâ hâ'ulâ'i wa'âbâ'ahum hattâ tâla ‘alayhimu l‘umuru afalâ yarawna annâ nâtî larda nanqusuhâ mina trâfihâ afahumu lghâlibûn

Au contraire Nous avons accordé une jouissance [temporaire] à ceux-là comme à leurs ancêtres jusqu'à un âge avancé. Ne voient-ils pas que Nous venons à la terre que Nous réduisons de tous côtés? Seront-ils alors les vainqueurs

But, [on the contrary], We have provided good things for these [disbelievers] and their fathers until life was prolonged for them. Then do they not see that We set upon the land, reducing it from its borders? So it is they who will overcome

قُلِ اِنَّمَآ أُنذِرُكُم بِالْوَحْيِۖ وَلَا يَسْمَعُ اُ۬لصُّمُّ اُ۬لدُّعَآءَ ا۪ذَا مَا يُنذَرُونَۖ ﰬ

Quli nnamâ undhirukum bilwahyi walâ yasma‘u ssummu ddu‘â'a dhâ mâ yundharûn

Dis: «Je vous avertis par ce qui m'est révélé». Les sourds, cependant, n'entendent pas l'appel quand on les avertit

Say, "I only warn you by revelation." But the deaf do not hear the call when they are warned

وَلَئِن مَّسَّتْهُمْ نَفْحَةٞ مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّكَ لَيَقُولُنَّ يَٰوَيْلَنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَٰلِمِينَۖ ﰭ

Wala'im massathum nafhatum min ‘adhâbi rabbika layaqûlunna yâwaylanâ innâ kunnâ zâlimîn

Si un souffle du châtiment de ton Seigneur les effleurait, ils diraient alors: «Malheur à nous! Nous étions vraiment injustes»

And if [as much as] a whiff of the punishment of your Lord should touch them, they would surely say, "O woe to us! Indeed, we have been wrongdoers

وَنَضَعُ اُ۬لْمَوَٰزِينَ اَ۬لْقِسْطَ لِيَوْمِ اِ۬لْقِيَٰمَةِ فَلَا تُظْلَمُ نَفْسٞ شَئْاٗۖ وَإِن كَانَ مِثْقَالُ حَبَّةٖ مِّنْ خَرْدَلٍ اَتَيْنَا بِهَا وَكَف۪ىٰ بِنَا حَٰسِبِينَۖ ﰮ

Wanada‘u lmawâzîna lqista liyawmi lqiyâmati falâ tuzlamu nafsun shay'an wa'in kâna mithqâlu habbatim min khardalina taynâ bihâ wakafê binâ hâsibîn

Au Jour de la Résurrection, Nous placerons les balances exactes. Nulle âme ne sera lésée en rien, fût-ce du poids d'un grain de moutarde que Nous ferons venir. Nous suffisons largement pour dresser les comptes

And We place the scales of justice for the Day of Resurrection, so no soul will be treated unjustly at all. And if there is [even] the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it forth. And sufficient are We as accountant

وَلَقَدَ اٰتَيْنَا مُوس۪ىٰ وَهَٰرُونَ اَ۬لْفُرْقَانَ وَضِيَآءٗ وَذِكْراٗ لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ ﰯ

Walaqada âtaynâ mûsê wahârûna lfurqâna wadiyâ'an wadhikral lilmuttaqîn

Nous avons déjà apporté à Moïse et Aaron le Livre du discernement (la Thora) ainsi qu'une lumière et un rappel pour les gens pieux

And We had already given Moses and Aaron the criterion and a light and a reminder for the righteous

اَ۬لذِينَ يَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُم بِالْغَيْبِ وَهُم مِّنَ اَ۬لسَّاعَةِ مُشْفِقُونَۖ ﰰ

Alladhîna yakhshawna rabbahum bilghaybi wahum mina ssâ‘ati mushfiqûn

qui craignent leur Seigneur malgré qu'ils ne Le voient pas, et redoutent l'Heure (la fin du monde)

Who fear their Lord unseen, while they are of the Hour apprehensive

وَهَٰذَا ذِكْرٞ مُّبَٰرَكٌ اَنزَلْنَٰهُۖ أَفَأَنتُمْ لَهُۥ مُنكِرُونَۖ ﰱ

Wahâdhâ dhikrum mubârakuna nzalnâhu afa'antum lahû munkirûn

Et ceci [le Coran] est un rappel béni que Nous avons fait descendre. Allez-vous donc le renier

And this [Qur'an] is a blessed message which We have sent down. Then are you with it unacquainted

۞ وَلَقَدَ اٰتَيْنَآ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ رُشْدَهُۥ مِن قَبْلُ وَكُنَّا بِهِۦ عَٰلِمِينَۖ ﰲ

Walaqada âtaynâ ibrâhîma rushdahû min qablu wakunnâ bihî ‘âlimîn

En effet, Nous avons mis auparavant Abraham sur le droit chemin. Et Nous en avions bonne connaissance

And We had certainly given Abraham his sound judgement before, and We were of him well-Knowing

إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِۦ مَا هَٰذِهِ اِ۬لتَّمَاثِيلُ اُ۬لتِےٓ أَنتُمْ لَهَا عَٰكِفُونَۖ ﰳ

Idh qâla li'abîhi waqawmihî mâ hâdhihi ttamâthîlu llatî antum lahâ ‘âkifûn

Quand il dit à son père et à son peuple: «Que sont ces statues auxquelles vous vous attachez?»

When he said to his father and his people, "What are these statues to which you are devoted

قَالُواْ وَجَدْنَآ ءَابَآءَنَا لَهَا عَٰبِدِينَۖ ﰴ

Qâlû wajadnâ âbâ'anâ lahâ ‘âbidîn

ils dirent: «Nous avons trouvé nos ancêtres les adorant»

They said, "We found our fathers worshippers of them

قَالَ لَقَدْ كُنتُمُۥٓ أَنتُمْ وَءَابَآؤُكُمْ فِے ضَلَٰلٖ مُّبِينٖۖ ﰵ

Qâla laqad kuntumû antum wa'âbâ'ukum fî dalâlim mubîn

Il dit: «Certainement, vous avez été, vous et vos ancêtres, dans un égarement évident»

He said, "You were certainly, you and your fathers, in manifest error

قَالُوٓاْ أَجِئْتَنَا بِالْحَقِّ أَمَ اَنتَ مِنَ اَ۬للَّٰعِبِينَۖ ﰶ

Qâlû ajî'tanâ bilhaqqi ama nta mina llâ‘ibîn

Ils dirent: «Viens-tu à nous avec la vérité ou plaisantes-tu?»

They said, "Have you come to us with truth, or are you of those who jest

قَالَ بَل رَّبُّكُمْ رَبُّ اُ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالَارْضِ اِ۬لذِے فَطَرَهُنَّۖ وَأَنَا عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكُم مِّنَ اَ۬لشَّٰهِدِينَۖ ﰷ

Qâla bal rabbukum rabbu ssamâwâti walardi lladhî fatarahunna wa'anâ ‘alâ dhâlikum mina shshâhidîn

Il dit: «Mais votre Seigneur est plutôt le Seigneur des cieux et de la terre, et c'est Lui qui les a créés. Et je suis un de ceux qui en témoignent

He said, "[No], rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who created them, and I, to that, am of those who testify

وَتَاللَّهِ لَأَكِيدَنَّ أَصْنَٰمَكُم بَعْدَ أَن تُوَلُّواْ مُدْبِرِينَۖ ﰸ

Watâllâhi la'akîdanna asnâmakum ba‘da an tuwallû mudbirîn

Et par Allah! Je ruserai certes contre vos idoles une fois que vous serez partis»

And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away

فَجَعَلَهُمْ جُذَٰذاً اِلَّا كَبِيراٗ لَّهُمْ لَعَلَّهُمُۥٓ إِلَيْهِ يَرْجِعُونَۖ ﰹ

Faja‘alahum judhâdhani llâ kabîral lahum la‘allahumû ilayhi yarji‘ûn

Il les mit en pièces, hormis [la statue] la plus grande. Peut-être qu'ils reviendraient vers elle

So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question]

قَالُواْ مَن فَعَلَ هَٰذَا بِـَٔالِهَتِنَآ إِنَّهُۥ لَمِنَ اَ۬لظَّٰلِمِينَۖ ﰺ

Qâlû man fa‘ala hâdhâ bi'âlihatinâ innahû lamina zzâlimîn

Ils dirent: «Qui a fait cela à nos divinités? Il est certes parmi les injustes»

They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers

قَالُواْ سَمِعْنَا فَتىٗ يَذْكُرُهُمْ يُقَالُ لَهُۥٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمُۖ ﰻ

Qâlû sami‘nâ fatan yadhkuruhum yuqâlu lahû ibrâhîm

(Certains) dirent: «Nous avons entendu un jeune homme médire d'elles; il s'appelle Abraham»

They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham

قَالُواْ فَاتُواْ بِهِۦ عَلَىٰٓ أَعْيُنِ اِ۬لنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَشْهَدُونَۖ ﰼ

Qâlû fâtû bihî ‘alâ a‘yuni nnâsi la‘allahum yashhadûn

Ils dirent: «Amenez-le sous les yeux des gens afin qu'ils puissent témoigner

They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people that they may testify

قَالُوٓاْ ءَآنتَ فَعَلْتَ هَٰذَا بِـَٔالِهَتِنَا يَٰٓإِبْرَٰهِيمُۖ ﰽ

Qâlû ânta fa‘alta hâdhâ bi'âlihatinâ yâ'ibrâhîm

(Alors) ils dirent: «Est-ce toi qui as fait cela à nos divinités, Abraham?»

They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham

قَالَ بَلْ فَعَلَهُۥ كَبِيرُهُمْ هَٰذَا فَسْـَٔلُوهُمُۥٓ إِن كَانُواْ يَنطِقُونَۖ ﰾ

Qâla bal fa‘alahû kabîruhum hâdhâ fas'alûhumû in kânû yantiqûn

Il dit: «C'est la plus grande d'entre elles que voici, qui l'a fait. Demandez-leur donc, si elles peuvent parler»

He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak

فَرَجَعُوٓاْ إِلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ فَقَالُوٓاْ إِنَّكُمُۥٓ أَنتُمُ اُ۬لظَّٰلِمُونَۖ ﰿ

Faraja‘û ilâ anfusihim faqâlû innakumû antumu zzâlimûn

Se ravisant alors, ils se dirent entre eux: «C'est vous qui êtes les vrais injustes»

So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers

ثُمَّ نُكِسُواْ عَلَىٰ رُءُوسِهِمْۖ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ مَا هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ يَنطِقُونَۖ ﱀ

Thumma nukisû ‘alâ ru'ûsihim laqad ‘alimta mâ hâ'ulâ'i yantiqûn

Puis ils firent volte-face et dirent: «Tu sais bien que celles-ci ne parlent pas»

Then they reversed themselves, [saying], "You have already known that these do not speak

قَالَ أَفَتَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ اِ۬للَّهِ مَا لَا يَنفَعُكُمْ شَئْاٗ وَلَا يَضُرُّكُمُۥٓۖ أُفّٖ لَّكُمْ وَلِمَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ اِ۬للَّهِۖ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَۖ ﱁ

Qâla afata‘budûna min dûni llâhi mâ lâ yanfa‘ukum shay'an walâ yadurrukumû uffil lakum walimâ ta‘budûna min dûni llâhi afalâ ta‘qilûn

Il dit: «Adorez-vous donc, en dehors d'Allah, ce qui ne saurait en rien vous être utile ni vous nuire non plus Fi de vous et de ce que vous adorez en dehors d'Allah! Ne raisonnez-vous pas?»

He said, "Then do you worship instead of Allah that which does not benefit you at all or harm you Uff to you and to what you worship instead of Allah. Then will you not use reason

قَالُواْ حَرِّقُوهُ وَانصُرُوٓاْ ءَالِهَتَكُمُۥٓ إِن كُنتُمْ فَٰعِلِينَۖ ﱂ

Qâlû harriqûhu wânsurû âlihatakumû in kuntum fâ‘ilîn

Ils dirent: «Brûlez-le. Secourez vos divinités si vous voulez faire quelque chose (pour elles)»

They said, "Burn him and support your gods - if you are to act

قُلْنَا يَٰنَارُ كُونِے بَرْداٗ وَسَلَٰماً عَلَىٰٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَۖ ﱃ

Qulnâ yânâru kûnî bardan wasalâman ‘alâ ibrâhîm

Nous dîmes: «O feu, sois pour Abraham une fraîcheur salutaire»

Allah said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham

وَأَرَادُواْ بِهِۦ كَيْداٗ فَجَعَلْنَٰهُمُ اُ۬لَاخْسَرِينَۖ ﱄ

Wa'arâdû bihî kaydan faja‘alnâhumu lakhsarîn

Ils voulaient ruser contre lui, mais ce sont eux que Nous rendîmes les plus grands perdants

And they intended for him harm, but We made them the greatest losers

وَنَجَّيْنَٰهُ وَلُوطاً اِلَى اَ۬لَارْضِ اِ۬لتِے بَٰرَكْنَا فِيهَا لِلْعَٰلَمِينَۖ ﱅ

Wanajjaynâhu walûtani lâ lardi llatî bâraknâ fîhâ lil‘âlamîn

Et Nous le sauvâmes, ainsi que Lot, vers une terre que Nous avions bénie pour tout l'univers

And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds

وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُۥٓ إِسْحَٰقَۖ وَيَعْقُوبَ نَافِلَةٗۖ وَكُلّاٗ جَعَلْنَا صَٰلِحِينَۖ ﱆ

Wawahabnâ lahû ishâqa waya‘qûba nâfilatan wakullan ja‘alnâ sâlihîn

Et Nous lui donnâmes Isaac et, de surcroît Jacob, desquels Nous fîmes des gens de bien

And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous

۞ وَجَعَلْنَٰهُمُۥٓ أَئِمَّةٗ يَهْدُونَ بِأَمْرِنَاۖ وَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْهِمْ فِعْلَ اَ۬لْخَيْرَٰتِ وَإِقَامَ اَ۬لصَّلَوٰةِ وَإِيتَآءَ اَ۬لزَّكَوٰةِۖ وَكَانُواْ لَنَا عَٰبِدِينَۖ ﱇ

Waja‘alnâhumû a'immatan yahdûna bi'amrinâ wa'awhaynâ ilayhim fi‘la lkhayrâti wa'iqâma ssalawâti wa'îtâ'a zzakawâti wakânû lanâ ‘âbidîn

Nous les fîmes des dirigeants qui guidaient par Notre ordre. Et Nous leur révélâmes de faire le bien, d'accomplir la prière et d'acquitter la Zakât. Et ils étaient Nos adorateurs

And We made them leaders guiding by Our command. And We inspired to them the doing of good deeds, establishment of prayer, and giving of zakah; and they were worshippers of Us

وَلُوطاً اٰتَيْنَٰهُ حُكْماٗ وَعِلْماٗۖ وَنَجَّيْنَٰهُ مِنَ اَ۬لْقَرْيَةِ اِ۬لتِے كَانَت تَّعْمَلُ اُ۬لْخَبَٰٓئِثَۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُواْ قَوْمَ سَوْءٖ فَٰسِقِينَۖ ﱈ

Walûtan âtaynâhu hukman wa‘ilman wanajjaynâhu mina lqaryati llatî kânat ta‘malu lkhabâ'itha innahum kânû qawma saw'in fâsiqîn

Et Lot! Nous lui avons apporté la capacité de juger et le savoir, et Nous l'avons sauvé de la cité où se commettaient les vices; ces gens étaient vraiment des gens du mal, des pervers

And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient

وَأَدْخَلْنَٰهُ فِے رَحْمَتِنَآۖ إِنَّهُۥ مِنَ اَ۬لصَّٰلِحِينَۖ ﱉ

Wa'adkhalnâhu fî rahmatinâ innahû mina ssâlihîn

et Nous l'avons fait entrer en Notre miséricorde. Il était vraiment du nombre des gens de bien

And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was of the righteous

وَنُوحاً اِذْ نَاد۪ىٰ مِن قَبْلُ فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُۥ فَنَجَّيْنَٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُۥ مِنَ اَ۬لْكَرْبِ اِ۬لْعَظِيمِۖ ﱊ

Wanûhani dh nâdê min qablu fastajabnâ lahû fanajjaynâhu wa'ahlahû mina lkarbi l‘azîm

Et Noé, quand auparavant il fit son appel. Nous l'exauçâmes et Nous le sauvâmes, ainsi que sa famille, de la grande angoisse

And [mention] Noah, when he called [to Allah] before [that time], so We responded to him and saved him and his family from the great flood

وَنَصَرْنَٰهُ مِنَ اَ۬لْقَوْمِ اِ۬لذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَآۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُواْ قَوْمَ سَوْءٖ فَأَغْرَقْنَٰهُمُۥٓ أَجْمَعِينَۖ ﱋ

Wanasarnâhu mina lqawmi lladhîna kadhdhabû bi'âyâtinâ innahum kânû qawma saw'in fa'aghraqnâhumû ajma‘în

et Nous le secourûmes contre le peuple qui traitait Nos prodiges de mensonges. Ils furent vraiment des gens du Mal. Nous les noyâmes donc tous

And We saved him from the people who denied Our signs. Indeed, they were a people of evil, so We drowned them, all together

وَدَاوُۥدَ وَسُلَيْمَٰنَ إِذْ يَحْكُمَٰنِ فِے اِ۬لْحَرْثِ إِذْ نَفَشَتْ فِيهِ غَنَمُ اُ۬لْقَوْمِۖ وَكُنَّا لِحُكْمِهِمْ شَٰهِدِينَۖ ﱌ

Wadâwûda wasulaymâna idh yahkumâni fî lharthi idh nafashat fîhi ghanamu lqawmi wakunnâ lihukmihim shâhidîn

Et David, et Salomon, quand ils eurent à juger au sujet d'un champ cultivé où des moutons appartenant à une peuplade étaient allés paître, la nuit. Et Nous étions témoin de leur jugement

And [mention] David and Solomon, when they judged concerning the field - when the sheep of a people overran it [at night], and We were witness to their judgement

فَفَهَّمْنَٰهَا سُلَيْمَٰنَۖ وَكُلّاً اٰتَيْنَا حُكْماٗ وَعِلْماٗۖ وَسَخَّرْنَا مَعَ دَاوُۥدَ اَ۬لْجِبَالَ يُسَبِّحْنَ وَالطَّيْرَۖ وَكُنَّا فَٰعِلِينَۖ ﱍ

Fafahhamnâhâ sulaymâna wakullan âtaynâ hukman wa‘ilman wasakhkharnâ ma‘a dâwûda ljibâla yusabbihna wattayra wakunnâ fâ‘ilîn

Nous la fîmes comprendre à Salomon. Et à chacun Nous donnâmes la faculté de juger et le savoir. Et Nous asservîmes les montagnes à exalter Notre Gloire en compagnie de David, ainsi que les oiseaux. Et c'est Nous qui sommes le Faiseur

And We gave understanding of the case to Solomon, and to each [of them] We gave judgement and knowledge. And We subjected the mountains to exalt [Us], along with David and [also] the birds. And We were doing [that]

وَعَلَّمْنَٰهُ صَنْعَةَ لَبُوسٖ لَّكُمْ لِيُحْصِنَكُم مِّنۢ بَأْسِكُمْۖ فَهَلَ اَنتُمْ شَٰكِرُونَۖ ﱎ

Wa‘allamnâhu san‘ata labûsil lakum liyuhsinakum mim ba'sikum fahala ntum shâkirûn

Nous lui (David) apprîmes la fabrication des cottes de mailles afin qu'elles vous protègent contre vos violences mutuelles (la guerre). En êtes-vous donc reconnaissants

And We taught him the fashioning of coats of armor to protect you from your [enemy in] battle. So will you then be grateful

وَلِسُلَيْمَٰنَ اَ۬لرِّيحَ عَاصِفَةٗ تَجْرِے بِأَمْرِهِۦٓ إِلَى اَ۬لَارْضِ اِ۬لتِے بَٰرَكْنَا فِيهَاۖ وَكُنَّا بِكُلِّ شَےْءٍ عَٰلِمِينَۖ ﱏ

Walisulaymâna rrîha ‘âsifatan tajrî bi'amrihî ilâ lardi llatî bâraknâ fîhâ wakunnâ bikulli shay'in ‘âlimîn

Et (Nous avons soumis) à Salomon le vent impétueux qui, par son ordre, se dirigea vers la terre que Nous avions bénie. Et Nous sommes à même de tout savoir

And to Solomon [We subjected] the wind, blowing forcefully, proceeding by his command toward the land which We had blessed. And We are ever, of all things, Knowing

وَمِنَ اَ۬لشَّيَٰطِينِ مَنْ يَّغُوصُونَ لَهُۥ وَيَعْمَلُونَ عَمَلاٗ دُونَ ذَٰلِكَۖ وَكُنَّا لَهُمْ حَٰفِظِينَۖ ﱐ

Wamina shshayâtîni may yaghûsûna lahû waya‘malûna ‘amalan dûna dhâlika wakunnâ lahum hâfizîn

et parmi les diables il en était qui plongeaient pour lui et faisaient d'autres travaux encore, et Nous les surveillions Nous-mêmes

And of the devils were those who dived for him and did work other than that. And We were of them a guardian

وَأَيُّوبَ إِذْ نَاد۪ىٰ رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّے مَسَّنِيَ اَ۬لضُّرُّ وَأَنتَ أَرْحَمُ اُ۬لرَّٰحِمِينَۖ ﱑ

Wa'ayyûba idh nâdê rabbahû annî massaniya ddurru wa'anta arhamu rrâhimîn

Et Job, quand il implora son Seigneur: «Le mal m'a touché. Mais Toi, tu es le plus miséricordieux des miséricordieux»

And [mention] Job, when he called to his Lord, "Indeed, adversity has touched me, and you are the Most Merciful of the merciful

فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُۥ فَكَشَفْنَا مَا بِهِۦ مِن ضُرّٖۖ وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُ أَهْلَهُۥ وَمِثْلَهُم مَّعَهُمْ رَحْمَةٗ مِّنْ عِندِنَا وَذِكْر۪ىٰ لِلْعَٰبِدِينَۖ ﱒ

Fastajabnâ lahû fakashafnâ mâ bihî min durrin wa'âtaynâhu ahlahû wamithlahum ma‘ahum rahmatam min ‘indinâ wadhikrê lil‘âbidîn

Nous l'exauçâmes, enlevâmes le mal qu'il avait, lui rendîmes les siens et autant qu'eux avec eux, par miséricorde de Notre part et en tant que rappel aux adorateurs

So We responded to him and removed what afflicted him of adversity. And We gave him [back] his family and the like thereof with them as mercy from Us and a reminder for the worshippers [of Allah]

وَإِسْمَٰعِيلَ وَإِدْرِيسَ وَذَا اَ۬لْكِفْلِۖ كُلّٞ مِّنَ اَ۬لصَّٰبِرِينَۖ ﱓ

Wa'ismâ‘îla wa'idrîsa wadhâ lkifli kullum mina ssâbirîn

Et Ismaël, Idris, et Dûl-Kifl! qui étaient tous endurants

And [mention] Ishmael and Idrees and Dhul-Kifl; all were of the patient

وَأَدْخَلْنَٰهُمْ فِے رَحْمَتِنَآۖ إِنَّهُم مِّنَ اَ۬لصَّٰلِحِينَۖ ﱔ

Wa'adkhalnâhum fî rahmatinâ innahum mina ssâlihîn

que Nous fîmes entrer en Notre miséricorde car ils étaient vraiment du nombre des gens de bien

And We admitted them into Our mercy. Indeed, they were of the righteous

۞ وَذَا اَ۬لنُّونِ إِذ ذَّهَبَ مُغَٰضِباٗ فَظَنَّ أَن لَّن نَّقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ فَنَاد۪ىٰ فِے اِ۬لظُّلُمَٰتِ أَن لَّآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنتَ سُبْحَٰنَكَ إِنِّے كُنتُ مِنَ اَ۬لظَّٰلِمِينَۖ ﱕ

Wadhâ nnûni idh dhahaba mughâdiban fazanna al lan naqdira ‘alayhi fanâdê fî zzulumâti al lâ ilâha illâ anta subhânaka innî kuntu mina zzâlimîn

Et Dû'n-Nûn (Jonas) quand il partit, irrité. Il pensa que Nous N'allions pas l'éprouver. Puis il fit, dans les ténèbres, l'appel que voici: «Pas de divinité à part Toi! Pureté à Toi! J'ai été vraiment du nombre des injustes»

And [mention] the man of the fish, when he went off in anger and thought that We would not decree [anything] upon him. And he called out within the darknesses, "There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers

فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُۥ وَنَجَّيْنَٰهُ مِنَ اَ۬لْغَمِّۖ وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُۨجِے اِ۬لْمُومِنِينَۖ ﱖ

Fastajabnâ lahû wanajjaynâhu mina lghammi wakadhâlika nujî lmûminîn

Nous l'exauçâmes et le sauvâmes de son angoisse. Et c'est ainsi que Nous sauvons les croyants

So We responded to him and saved him from the distress. And thus do We save the believers

وَزَكَرِيَّآءَ ا۪ذْ نَاد۪ىٰ رَبَّهُۥ رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِے فَرْداٗ وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ اُ۬لْوَٰرِثِينَۖ ﱗ

Wazakariyyâ'a dh nâdê rabbahû rabbi lâ tadharnî fardan wa'anta khayru lwârithîn

Et Zacharie, quand il implora son Seigneur: «Ne me laisse pas seul, Seigneur, alors que Tu es le meilleur des héritiers»

And [mention] Zechariah, when he called to his Lord, "My Lord, do not leave me alone [with no heir], while you are the best of inheritors

فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُۥ وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُۥ يَحْي۪ىٰ وَأَصْلَحْنَا لَهُۥ زَوْجَهُۥٓۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُواْ يُسَٰرِعُونَ فِے اِ۬لْخَيْرَٰتِ وَيَدْعُونَنَا رَغَباٗ وَرَهَباٗ وَكَانُواْ لَنَا خَٰشِعِينَۖ ﱘ

Fastajabnâ lahû wawahabnâ lahû yahyê wa'aslahnâ lahû zawjahû innahum kânû yusâri‘ûna fî lkhayrâti wayad‘ûnanâ raghaban warahaban wakânû lanâ khâshi‘în

Nous l'exauçâmes, lui donnâmes Yahya et guérîmes son épouse. Ils concouraient au bien et Nous invoquaient par amour et par crainte. Et ils étaient humbles devant Nous

So We responded to him, and We gave to him John, and amended for him his wife. Indeed, they used to hasten to good deeds and supplicate Us in hope and fear, and they were to Us humbly submissive

وَالتِےٓ أَحْصَنَتْ فَرْجَهَا فَنَفَخْنَا فِيهَا مِن رُّوحِنَا وَجَعَلْنَٰهَا وَابْنَهَآ ءَايَةٗ لِّلْعَٰلَمِينَۖ ﱙ

Wallatî ahsanat farjahâ fanafakhnâ fîhâ mir rûhinâ waja‘alnâhâ wabnahâ âyatal lil‘âlamîn

Et celle [la vierge Marie] qui avait préservé sa chasteté! Nous insufflâmes en elle un souffle (de vie) venant de Nous et fîmes d'elle ainsi que de son fils, un signe [miracle] pour l'univers

And [mention] the one who guarded her chastity, so We blew into her [garment] through Our angel [Gabriel], and We made her and her son a sign for the worlds

إِنَّ هَٰذِهِۦٓ أُمَّتُكُمُۥٓ أُمَّةٗ وَٰحِدَةٗۖ وَأَنَا رَبُّكُمْ فَاعْبُدُونِۖ ﱚ

Inna hâdhihî ummatukumû ummatan wâhidatan wa'anâ rabbukum fa‘budûn

Certes, cette communauté qui est la vôtre est une communauté unique, et Je suis votre Seigneur. Adorez-Moi donc

Indeed this, your religion, is one religion, and I am your Lord, so worship Me

وَتَقَطَّعُوٓاْ أَمْرَهُم بَيْنَهُمْۖ كُلٌّ اِلَيْنَا رَٰجِعُونَۖ ﱛ

Wataqatta‘û amrahum baynahum kulluni laynâ râji‘ûn

Ils se sont divisés en sectes. Mais tous, retourneront à Nous

And [yet] they divided their affair among themselves, [but] all to Us will return

فَمَنْ يَّعْمَلْ مِنَ اَ۬لصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَهُوَ مُومِنٞ فَلَا كُفْرَانَ لِسَعْيِهِۦۖ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ كَٰتِبُونَۖ ﱜ

Famay ya‘mal mina ssâlihâti wahuwa mûminun falâ kufrâna lisa‘yihî wa'innâ lahû kâtibûn

Quiconque fait de bonnes œuvres tout en étant croyant, on ne méconnaîtra pas son effort, et Nous le lui inscrivons [à son actif]

So whoever does righteous deeds while he is a believer - no denial will there be for his effort, and indeed We, of it, are recorders

وَحَرَٰمٌ عَلَىٰ قَرْيَةٍ اَهْلَكْنَٰهَآ أَنَّهُمْ لَا يَرْجِعُونَۖ ﱝ

Waharâmun ‘alâ qaryatina hlaknâhâ annahum lâ yarji‘ûn

Il est défendu [aux habitants] d'une cité que Nous avons fait périr de revenir [à la vie d'ici-bas]

And there is prohibition upon [the people of] a city which We have destroyed that they will [ever] return

حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا فُتِحَتْ يَاجُوجُ وَمَاجُوجُ وَهُم مِّن كُلِّ حَدَبٖ يَنسِلُونَ ﱞ

Hattâ idhâ futihat yâjûju wamâjûju wahum min kulli hadabin yansilûn

Jusqu'à ce que soient relâchés les Yâjûj et les Mâjûj et qu'ils se précipiteront de chaque hauteur

Until when [the dam of] Gog and Magog has been opened and they, from every elevation, descend

وَاقْتَرَبَ اَ۬لْوَعْدُ اُ۬لْحَقُّ فَإِذَا هِيَ شَٰخِصَةٌ اَبْصَٰرُ اُ۬لذِينَ كَفَرُواْ يَٰوَيْلَنَا قَدْ كُنَّا فِے غَفْلَةٖ مِّنْ هَٰذَا بَلْ كُنَّا ظَٰلِمِينَۖ ﱟ

Waqtaraba lwa‘du lhaqqu fa'idhâ hiya shâkhisatuna bsâru lladhîna kafarû yâwaylanâ qad kunnâ fî ghaflatim min hâdhâ bal kunnâ zâlimîn

c'est alors que la vraie promesse s'approchera, tandis que les regards de ceux qui ont mécru se figent: «Malheur à nous! Nous y avons été inattentifs. Bien plus, nous étions des injustes»

And [when] the true promise has approached; then suddenly the eyes of those who disbelieved will be staring [in horror, while they say], "O woe to us; we had been unmindful of this; rather, we were wrongdoers

إِنَّكُمْ وَمَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ اِ۬للَّهِ حَصَبُ جَهَنَّمَ أَنتُمْ لَهَا وَٰرِدُونَۖ ﱠ

Innakum wamâ ta‘budûna min dûni llâhi hasabu jahannama antum lahâ wâridûn

«Vous serez, vous et ce que vous adoriez en dehors d'Allah, le combustible de l'Enfer, vous vous y rendrez tous

Indeed, you [disbelievers] and what you worship other than Allah are the firewood of Hell. You will be coming to [enter] it

لَوْ كَانَ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ اَ۟لِهَةٗ مَّا وَرَدُوهَاۖ وَكُلّٞ فِيهَا خَٰلِدُونَۖ ﱡ

Law kâna hâ'ulâ'i lihatam mâ waradûhâ wakullun fîhâ khâlidûn

Si ceux-là étaient vraiment des divinités, ils n'y entreraient pas; et tous y demeureront éternellement

Had these [false deities] been [actual] gods, they would not have come to it, but all are eternal therein

لَهُمْ فِيهَا زَفِيرٞ وَهُمْ فِيهَا لَا يَسْمَعُونَۖ ﱢ

Lahum fîhâ zafîrun wahum fîhâ lâ yasma‘ûn

Ils y pousseront des gémissements, et n'y entendront rien

For them therein is heavy sighing, and they therein will not hear

۞ إِنَّ اَ۬لذِينَ سَبَقَتْ لَهُم مِّنَّا اَ۬لْحُسْن۪ىٰٓ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ عَنْهَا مُبْعَدُونَۖ ﱣ

Inna lladhîna sabaqat lahum minnâ lhusnê ulâ'ika ‘anhâ mub‘adûn

En seront écartés, ceux à qui étaient précédemment promises de belles récompenses de Notre part

Indeed, those for whom the best [reward] has preceded from Us - they are from it far removed

لَا يَسْمَعُونَ حَسِيسَهَا وَهُمْ فِے مَا اَ۪شْتَهَتَ اَنفُسُهُمْ خَٰلِدُونَۖ ﱤ

Lâ yasma‘ûna hasîsahâ wahum fî mâ shtahata nfusuhum khâlidûn

Ils n'entendront pas son sifflement et jouiront éternellement de ce que leurs âmes désirent

They will not hear its sound, while they are, in that which their souls desire, abiding eternally

لَا يَحْزُنُهُمُ اُ۬لْفَزَعُ اُ۬لَاكْبَرُۖ وَتَتَلَقّ۪يٰهُمُ اُ۬لْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ هَٰذَا يَوْمُكُمُ اُ۬لذِے كُنتُمْ تُوعَدُونَۖ ﱥ

Lâ yahzunuhumu lfaza‘u lakbaru watatalaqqêhumu lmalâ'ikatu hâdhâ yawmukumu lladhî kuntum tû‘adûn

La grande terreur ne les affligera pas, et les Anges les accueilleront: «voici le jour qui vous a été promis»

They will not be grieved by the greatest terror, and the angels will meet them, [saying], "This is your Day which you have been promised

يَوْمَ نَطْوِے اِ۬لسَّمَآءَ كَطَيِّ اِ۬لسِّجِلِّ لِلْكِتَٰبِۖ كَمَا بَدَأْنَآ أَوَّلَ خَلْقٖ نُّعِيدُهُۥۖ وَعْداً عَلَيْنَآۖ إِنَّا كُنَّا فَٰعِلِينَۖ ﱦ

Yawma natwî ssamâ'a katayyi ssijilli lilkitâbi kamâ bada'nâ awwala khalqin nu‘îduhû wa‘dan ‘alaynâ innâ kunnâ fâ‘ilîn

Le jour où Nous plierons le ciel comme on plie le rouleau des livres. Tout comme Nous avons commencé la première création, ainsi Nous la répéterons; c'est une promesse qui Nous incombe et Nous l'accomplirons

The Day when We will fold the heaven like the folding of a [written] sheet for the records. As We began the first creation, We will repeat it. [That is] a promise binding upon Us. Indeed, We will do it

وَلَقَدْ كَتَبْنَا فِے اِ۬لزَّبُورِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ اِ۬لذِّكْرِ أَنَّ اَ۬لَارْضَ يَرِثُهَا عِبَادِيَ اَ۬لصَّٰلِحُونَۖ ﱧ

Walaqad katabnâ fî zzabûri mim ba‘di dhdhikri anna larda yarithuhâ ‘ibâdiya ssâlihûn

Et Nous avons certes écrit dans le Zabûr, après l'avoir mentionné (dans le Livre céleste), que la terre sera héritée par Mes bons serviteurs»

And We have already written in the book [of Psalms] after the [previous] mention that the land [of Paradise] is inherited by My righteous servants

إِنَّ فِے هَٰذَا لَبَلَٰغاٗ لِّقَوْمٍ عَٰبِدِينَۖ ﱨ

Inna fî hâdhâ labalâghal liqawmin ‘âbidîn

Il y a en cela [ces enseignements] une communication à un peuple d'adorateurs

Indeed, in this [Qur'an] is notification for a worshipping people

وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَٰكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةٗ لِّلْعَٰلَمِينَۖ ﱩ

Wamâ arsalnâka illâ rahmatal lil‘âlamîn

Et Nous ne t'avons envoyé qu'en miséricorde pour l'univers

And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds

قُلِ اِنَّمَا يُوح۪ىٰٓ إِلَيَّ أَنَّمَآ إِلَٰهُكُمُۥٓ إِلَٰهٞ وَٰحِدٞۖ فَهَلَ اَنتُم مُّسْلِمُونَۖ ﱪ

Quli nnamâ yûhê ilayya annamâ ilâhukumû ilâhun wâhidun fahala ntum muslimûn

Dis: «Voilà ce qui m'est révélé: Votre Dieu est un Dieu unique; Etes-vous Soumis?» [décidés à embrasser l'Islam]

Say, "It is only revealed to me that your god is but one God; so will you be Muslims [in submission to Him]

فَإِن تَوَلَّوْاْ فَقُلَ اٰذَنتُكُمْ عَلَىٰ سَوَآءٖۖ وَإِنَ اَدْرِےٓ أَقَرِيبٌ اَم بَعِيدٞ مَّا تُوعَدُونَۖ ﱫ

Fa'in tawallaw faqula âdhantukum ‘alâ sawâ'in wa'ina drî aqarîbuna m ba‘îdum mâ tû‘adûn

Si ensuite ils se détournent dis alors: «Je vous ai avertis en toute équité; je ne sais si ce qui vous est promis est proche ou lointain

But if they turn away, then say, "I have announced to [all of] you equally. And I know not whether near or far is that which you are promised

إِنَّهُۥ يَعْلَمُ اُ۬لْجَهْرَ مِنَ اَ۬لْقَوْلِ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا تَكْتُمُونَۖ ﱬ

Innahû ya‘lamu ljahra mina lqawli waya‘lamu mâ taktumûn

Il connaît ce que vous dites à haute voix et ce que vous cachez

Indeed, He knows what is declared of speech, and He knows what you conceal

وَإِنَ اَدْرِے لَعَلَّهُۥ فِتْنَةٞ لَّكُمْ وَمَتَٰعٌ اِلَىٰ حِينٖۖ ﱭ

Wa'ina drî la‘allahû fitnatul lakum wamatâ‘uni lâ hîn

Et je ne sais pas; ceci est peut-être une tentation pour vous et une jouissance pour un certain temps»

And I know not; perhaps it is a trial for you and enjoyment for a time

قُل رَّبِّ اِ۟حْكُم بِالْحَقِّۖ وَرَبُّنَا اَ۬لرَّحْمَٰنُ اُ۬لْمُسْتَعَانُ عَلَىٰ مَا تَصِفُونَۖ ﱮ

Qul rabbi hkum bilhaqqi warabbunâ rrahmânu lmusta‘ânu ‘alâ mâ tasifûn

Il dit: «Seigneur, juge en toute justice! Et Notre Seigneur le Tout Miséricordieux, c'est Lui dont le secours est imploré contre vos assertions»

[The Prophet] has said, "My Lord, judge [between us] in truth. And our Lord is the Most Merciful, the one whose help is sought against that which you describe
