وَالشَّمْسِ وَضُحَيٰهَا ﰀ

Washshamsi waduhâhâ

Par le soleil et par sa clarté

By the sun and its brightness

وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَيٰهَا ﰁ

Walqamari idhâ talâhâ

Et par la lune quand elle le suit

And [by] the moon when it follows it

وَالنَّه۪ارِ إِذَا جَلَّيٰهَا ﰂ

Wannahêri idhâ jallâhâ

Et par le jour quand il l'éclaire

And [by] the day when it displays it

وَاليْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَيٰهَا ﰃ

Wallayli idhâ yaghshâhâ

Et par la nuit quand elle l'enveloppe

And [by] the night when it covers it

وَالسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنَيٰهَا ﰄ

Wassamâ'i wamâ banâhâ

Et par le ciel et Celui qui l'a construit

And [by] the sky and He who constructed it

وَالَارْضِ وَمَا طَحَيٰهَا ﰅ

Walardi wamâ tahâhâ

Et par la terre et Celui qui l'a étendue

And [by] the earth and He who spread it

وَنَفْسٖ وَمَا سَوَّيٰهَا ﰆ

Wanafsin wamâ sawwâhâ

Et par l'âme et Celui qui l'a harmonieusement façonnée

And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it

فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَيٰهَا ﰇ

Fa'alhamahâ fujûrahâ wataqwâhâ

et lui a alors inspiré son immoralité, de même que sa piété

And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness

قَدَ اَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّيٰهَا ﰈ

Qada flaha man zakkâhâ

A réussi, certes, celui qui la purifie

He has succeeded who purifies it

وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّيٰهَاۖ ﰉ

Waqad khâba man dassâhâ

Et est perdu, certes, celui qui la corrompt

And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَيٰهَآ ﰊ

Kadhdhabat thamûdu bitaghwâhâ

Les Thamûd, par leur transgression, ont crié au mensonge

Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression

إِذِ اِ۪نۢبَعَثَ أَشْقَيٰهَا ﰋ

Idhi mba‘atha ashqâhâ

lorsque le plus misérable d'entre eux se leva (pour tuer la chamelle)

When the most wretched of them was sent forth

فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اُ۬للَّهِ نَاقَةَ اَ۬للَّهِ وَسُقْيَاهَا ﰌ

Faqâla lahum rasûlu llâhi nâqata llâhi wasuqyâhâ

Le Messager d'Allah leur avait dit: «La chamelle d'Allah! Laissez-la boire

And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنۢبِهِمْ فَسَوَّيٰهَاۖ ﰍ

Fakadhdhabûhu fa‘aqarûhâ fadamdama ‘alayhim rabbuhum bidhambihim fasawwâhâ

Mais, ils le traitèrent de menteur, et la tuèrent. Leur Seigneur les détruisit donc, pour leur péché et étendit Son châtiment sur tous

But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]

فَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَٰهَاۖ ﰎ

Falâ yakhâfu ‘uqbâhâ

Et Allah n'a aucune crainte des conséquences

And He does not fear the consequence thereof
